<br />
<div>
Happy Easter!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
It has been close to two years since my last blog post. I just wanted to share one of my favorite historical and mystical images with you known as... The Three Hares. Sometimes called Tinners Hares/Rabbits. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
It truly has a fascinating history. <a href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_hares">https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Three_hares</a> I will leave the historical telling of it to those who have made a great effort to research it. <a href="https://hyperallergic.com/311482/the-mystery-of-the-three-hares-motif/">https://hyperallergic.com/311482/the-mystery-of-the-three-hares-motif/</a> One of the earliest examples of the image is from the year 581 found in Buddhist cave in China. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4hlZuZts9mo/XpIhhbdtAlI/AAAAAAAAEHo/aF1_VWLqM0gqohjlewkiBfT07lRdtEr3QCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/threehares07-768x512.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="512" data-original-width="768" height="266" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-4hlZuZts9mo/XpIhhbdtAlI/AAAAAAAAEHo/aF1_VWLqM0gqohjlewkiBfT07lRdtEr3QCLcBGAsYHQ/s400/threehares07-768x512.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Many years ago I sent photos of it to Linda Master <a href="http://miraclechicken.blogspot.com/">http://miraclechicken.blogspot.com/</a> asking her if she would be interested in carving it in miniature. We brain stormed it, thinking of how many ways it might be used in 1: 12 scale. I thought of pargeting it to the exterior of a cottage, she had several ideas of her own. There are as many uses in miniature as there ever have been in real life throughout the centuries. I can see it on garden walls, painted on porcelain tiles, sculpted terracotta tile, the list is endless but Linda's specialty is carving wood.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<div>
<br />
Recently we started talking about the image again. This week I received a 1:12 scale piece from her of it. It is 44 millimeters in diameter a little over an inch and a half. I wanted it to look like it was old, possibly an architectural salvage of some sort. I couldn't have been more pleased with her rendition. She did an absolutely beautiful job. It was carved out of a special piece of pear she had been saving.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
How I will use it remains to be seen. It needs just the right setting. I think it will fit in perfectly with the other things I have collected. The Three Hares would make a great name for a tea shop.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-90j2bDCDR2g/XpIhrtCk3sI/AAAAAAAAEHw/hgV4X04Keew-L_clHhj60cNmbCJXzbtZQCLcBGAsYHQ/s1600/1-DSCN4546.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="791" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-90j2bDCDR2g/XpIhrtCk3sI/AAAAAAAAEHw/hgV4X04Keew-L_clHhj60cNmbCJXzbtZQCLcBGAsYHQ/s320/1-DSCN4546.JPG" width="316" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Mean time.... I am embroidering the hares it on a denim shirt, using a needle painting technique. I think 3 inches diameter is a good size for over the left breast pocket. What have you found to do while spending so much time at home during this quarantine? </div>

<span style="color: yellow;">Riding home in the car. his front legs over my arm</span></div>
<div>
<span style="color: yellow;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
We spent 15 years together in this house. From the day I picked him up at the airport and brought him home he decided he would always have to be next to me wherever I was. So I made a "highchair" for him from a kitchen stool with a huge wood tray bungee corded under the seat. The cords went over the scalloped edged corners of the tray. It had a thick foam mattress in it covered with the cotton baby blanket he arrived with in his crate (washed once a week). He wasn't allowed on my sofas or <b>upholstered chairs</b>. If I moved to a different room, he told me to go get him his "highchair." He did that by pawing my leg or meowing until I went and got it. He slept with me every night right from the beginning. Not something I was happy about at first. I gave up on television long ago. When I bought an IPad I usually watched a movie at night. Laying on my side with my arm stretched out and my head on a pillow, <u>he <b>had to</b> have his two paws over my upper arm </u>while laying right next to me. If I wasn't in the mood for that or if it was too hot, he would fight me for that position until he won the battle. I watched most movies with an ear or two at the bottom or in the middle of the screen.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<span style="color: yellow;"> Totally relaxed in his "Highchair"</span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Killy was extremely dog like. He never failed to come when I called him. He met me at the door when I came home. He knew a lot of language because I talked to him all the time. He knew what was meant by... "OK, Lets go." He knew we were moving when my computer (AOL) said "Good Bye" and jumped down. Linda Master would tell you I could get him to say hello to her when we were on the phone by saying HELLO. He would answer with a loud MEOW! Making her giggle.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p1Hhw835BZI/WwMgGbwL_RI/AAAAAAAAECg/846D40UdXfEFYh_Jfyk7nc3wPYP4yERzgCLcBGAs/s1600/1-DSCN2117.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="300" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-p1Hhw835BZI/WwMgGbwL_RI/AAAAAAAAECg/846D40UdXfEFYh_Jfyk7nc3wPYP4yERzgCLcBGAs/s400/1-DSCN2117.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When people talk about intimate relationships they are usually talking about a partner, husband or wife. None of which would rush into the bathroom to sit at your feet just to be close to you. I think I just heard a loud chorus of ... Thank god for that! No matter what you are doing, privacy isn't an issue with a furry friend. So if you are alone you can make up silly songs or games for their amusement. Or whatever else might make the world think you were totally insane.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
Whatever you give <u><b>all of yourself </b>to</u><b> </b>has enormous power. If you have ever experienced grief so deep, so profound that you thought it could crush the life out of your body, then you might know how I feel.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<b>Thank you all for following Kilmouski & Me.</b></div>
<div>

<div>
Killy, you will live in me always.</div>

Finally spring has arrived. The beginning of April felt more like January or February. All it has taken is a few warm days and suddenly everything is starting to bloom. The clematis and azaleas look happy. The huge pink dogwood in my side garden is just getting started.<br />

My city rarely gets extremely cold but as many of you have heard or are experiencing yourselves, the USA is having some rather unusual temperatures at the moment.<br />
<br />
<div>
<div class="userEdit" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">
Last
night, the coldest for me so far was 8 degrees Fahrenheit or -13 C. It was at
about 9:30 PM when I heard it.... a big<span style="color: #cc0000;"><b> BOOM</b></span> and then all the lights and the
heat went off. I looked out my up stairs window and the neighborhood was totally
dark. A few minutes later I phoned the power company to report an outage. They
said via a recording, there were 13 outages, 1,875 homes. I can tell you
truthfully it scared me to the core of my being! I have lived in this
neighborhood a very long time and the longest I went without power was for three
weeks in the summer, after a really bad storm. That storm destroyed houses and
took down trees all over the city. We had a bad ice storm about 15 years ago and
I lost power in the winter for a week. Right, no lights, no heat! Last night was
really odd because other than being very cold there was nothing extraordinary
happening with the weather, no snow no ice.<br />
<br /></div>
<div class="userEdit" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">
</div>
<div class="userEdit" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">
I
got more blankets and went to sleep. I was VERY happy this morning to find the
heat was on and the house was warm! I frankly didn't expect it.<br />

</div>
<div class="userEdit" style="font-family: arial, helvetica, sans-serif; font-size: 10pt;">
So... if you are in the FROZEN USA I hope you are inside and warm. </div>

<br />
Last Spring when I was at the Tom Bishop Show in Chicago I met Lidi Stroud for the first time at her table. It was a real treat to see so many of her gorgeous baskets in person. I was going to buy one of my favorites but instead we started talking about a trade. Lidi told me she liked my walnut shell cottages. Over the next few months a trade was never discussed again.<br />
<br />
In November I emailed Lidi to let her know I had sent her a parcel. She wrote back and said... "Now isn't that strange, I sent you one yesterday." Strange indeed!!! I was sure she had forgotten all about our discussion.<br />
<br />
I was thrilled to bits when her French picnic basket arrived! It has been a favorite since the first time I saw it on her blog. <a href="http://basketcase-miniatures.blogspot.com/">http://basketcase-miniatures.blogspot.com/</a> You can't really appreciate how fine her work is until you hold it in your hand.<br />
<br />
Thanks again Lidi! I love it! XXX<br />

<br />
<div>
As you can see I have been busy.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
There are a few things I would rather do then make flowers. Like spend the
day with my tax man or go for a colonoscopy. The entire time I kept thinking of
dear Elizabeth making that garden all around her house. How did you survive that
I wondered? <a href="http://studioeminiatures.blogspot.com/">http://studioeminiatures.blogspot.com/</a>
I survived by listening to one of the Outlander audio books. Good thing it
has 47 disks!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Still, I have to admit miniature flowers have loads of charm. I am going to
have to work on the color combinations. I wanted some sort of setting for the
French flower buckets, watering cans I made. I am hoping to start making those
to sell next year. And yes... this project will have walls. ;-O<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MYE_L_4XRHI/WdEKGuQXdhI/AAAAAAAAD8w/PfTaan_tJ0YLUtCjTnzyIYCEFMY5BGoYgCLcBGAs/s1600/DSCN1720.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="1000" data-original-width="750" height="400" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-MYE_L_4XRHI/WdEKGuQXdhI/AAAAAAAAD8w/PfTaan_tJ0YLUtCjTnzyIYCEFMY5BGoYgCLcBGAs/s400/DSCN1720.JPG" width="300" /></a></div>
<br />
<br />
<div>
<div>
This was the first project I made in a metals class in art school. The
assignment was to fabricate something in metal. Using forming and soldering
techniques. I chose to make a 1: 12 scale teapot on a stand.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The stand was made of sterling silver square wire because I needed that
gauge and sterling was all I had. The flower cup holder was cut out of a dapped
piece of sterling with a jewelers saw. Then the stand was oxidized to make it
look like wrought iron.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The body of the teapot is in brass and was made of two dapped pieces
soldered together. I wanted a tapered hollow spout and the only way I knew to
make it at that time was to electroform it. I made a wax interior shape and
painted a conductor on it. Then literally grew copper over the wax. Once I had
enough copper on the wax I was able to melt out the wax and solder the spout on
the brass pot. Everything brass had to be gold plated. The burner was made out
of telescoping tubes and sheet brass. The wood knob and handle are ebony.<br />
<br />
My father gave me the life size version of this piece for my birthday. For Christmas I gave him back the miniature I made of it.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
More 40 years later this first project makes me cringe a bit. I made five
of these pieces. Dearing and Tracy (miniature dealers from the 1970's) sold the other four for me.</div>
</div>
</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<br />
I have been so busy with RL I haven't had much time for miniatures. Though I have finished several galvanized French Flower buckets.<br />
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I have found so many wonderful brass and copper findings lately. I have a
lot of ideas about how I would like to use them. Any ideas you might have would be welcome. I think we all have had lots of uses for findings.</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lhzAO7hZb4Q/Wcv8EWNUHRI/AAAAAAAAD8Q/Ry5uCtsoHhU-Pn0JyJ1nRxfT919Y1vcQwCLcBGAs/s1600/Birds%2B%2526%2BChicks%2BBrass.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="308" data-original-width="338" height="288" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-lhzAO7hZb4Q/Wcv8EWNUHRI/AAAAAAAAD8Q/Ry5uCtsoHhU-Pn0JyJ1nRxfT919Y1vcQwCLcBGAs/s320/Birds%2B%2526%2BChicks%2BBrass.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
The copper pheasants and chicks are just 38 X 30mm. They detail is just
<b>incredible</b>. Which will be greatly enhanced/defined once they have been oxidized and
buffed. I can think of many ways to use this piece. The simplest of which would
just be framing it.. The copper is pretty heavy, unlike other stampings I have
seen. Which makes forming it a bit risky because hammering on it might
damage the higher raised areas. I still may sweat solder it to a piece
of brass and try forming it into cane/umbrella stand. That would be great next to a front door of a country house. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJX0I4R-3mE/Wcv78Ena1OI/AAAAAAAAD8U/Idtn_KUuTAQ_0SRHv60SKo6bXObPDxzkwCEwYBhgL/s1600/110%2Bmm%2Bdragons.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="383" data-original-width="570" height="268" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-bJX0I4R-3mE/Wcv78Ena1OI/AAAAAAAAD8U/Idtn_KUuTAQ_0SRHv60SKo6bXObPDxzkwCEwYBhgL/s400/110%2Bmm%2Bdragons.jpg" width="400" /></a></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;">.</span></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The brass dragons drinking out of the fountain are 110mm long. Wonderful I thought
for a pediment of a house. They would have to be painted to look like they were
carved stone or plaster. They could be used over a double door too. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hAojUrxgDLM/WcwFpuVGJGI/AAAAAAAAD8g/r2swLnipk60I6DN8Z-DZRNc33_1fhIWxQCLcBGAs/s1600/1-DSCN4317.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="747" data-original-width="800" height="186" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-hAojUrxgDLM/WcwFpuVGJGI/AAAAAAAAD8g/r2swLnipk60I6DN8Z-DZRNc33_1fhIWxQCLcBGAs/s200/1-DSCN4317.JPG" width="200" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I wish I had been able to get two of these copper pieces so I could have soldered them together. It would have required cutting off and replacing the bottom. It will still make a nice wall planter. Perhaps in a green patina. </div>
<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<span style="text-align: left;"><br /></span></div>
<div>
I made several watering cans a few years ago and either sold or gave them
away. When I went to make myself one a few days ago, I discovered I had lost the
plate I engraved to make the raised rings around the body of the can. UGH! Sad,
because that plate also had to curved engraved cuts for making French "zinc"
flower buckets. This cans watering head has really small holes drilled
in concentric circles. In a few days the polished brass will dull down and look just right.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
I meant to take lots of in progress pictures but as usual I just got busy
and just couldn't stop. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>

<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FdnQo4sE-po/WaMLcJtSedI/AAAAAAAAD7M/556ESXeAzEsfQLboy4Vrn0auhlzrYfuywCLcBGAs/s1600/1-DSCN4302.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="600" data-original-width="800" height="300" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-FdnQo4sE-po/WaMLcJtSedI/AAAAAAAAD7M/556ESXeAzEsfQLboy4Vrn0auhlzrYfuywCLcBGAs/s400/1-DSCN4302.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
It is amazing how many tools it takes to make these. Steel surface plate,
ring mandrel, Small tapered mandrel (for making the tapered tube), dapping block
set, soldering equipment, Flex shaft, hammers, gravers, jewelers saw and on and
on it goes. I am sure you know very well how much stuff you have to drag out for
a small project.</div>

Ravens have managed their way into superstition, stories and poetry. It is
said that if the ravens ever leave The Tower of London the Crown will fall and
Britian with it. In Edgar Allan Poe's poem "The Raven" it symbolizes grief and
death. They sure have found their way into Halloween. I suppose that Poe's poem
can take credit for that.<br />
<div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
They are huge birds. As long as 25 inches in length and as much as 4.4
pounds. A lot bigger then a crow. </div>
<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">

The inspiration for the miniature was actually Pepper's Gothic dollhouse. <a href="https://mitchymoominiatures.blogspot.com/">https://mitchymoominiatures.blogspot.com/</a> I
wanted to make her something for it. She has received it now so I am not
spoiling the surprise. </div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I had no idea how she wanted to decorate it so that
made making something for the interior difficult. Then it suddenly struck me
that a raven might look right sitting somewhere on the exterior. Old manor
houses also seem to have a lot of taxidermy around he might even be used like
that.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
I had ordered a lot of black turkey feathers for this project so I made the
one shown here. It is very difficult to photograph black! There isn't any white lint on the bird, I had to lighten these a bit so you could see them. Otherwise they would have looked like a silhouette. <span style="color: #ffd966;">He is jet black!</span></div>
</div>
<div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div>
<br />
I cut his flock out of black silk embroidery floss. He was sculpted out of polymer clay. I only used the tips of the turkey feathers to cut down.<br />
<br />
No color tweaking below. Here he isn't grayed from lightening the photo.<br />

It has been very hot and humid here. Yesterday the heat index said it felt
like 109 degrees F. The air-conditioner really can't get the inside
temperature more then 20 degrees below what it is outside. So we have been
enjoying lazy days. I have been working in polymer clay making miniature animals, while Kilmouski naps next to me.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n35S5g4kSw4/WXYwU1zxXdI/AAAAAAAAD4k/566jN4z0rn0yFJlai7b8pWG9i3FWiWyowCEwYBhgL/s1600/2-DSCN4281.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="387" data-original-width="800" height="191" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-n35S5g4kSw4/WXYwU1zxXdI/AAAAAAAAD4k/566jN4z0rn0yFJlai7b8pWG9i3FWiWyowCEwYBhgL/s400/2-DSCN4281.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
There is a dormer window I put a kitty perch in upstairs. The fabric pillow
he is resting his head on is printed with cats. One of which looks exactly like
him. That pillow belonged to his predecessor. It still apparently contains
the wonderful scent of Honeysuckle after more than 20 years! I wish I could buy
him Honeysuckle wood sticks (for cats) but it isn't sold in the USA. You can
only get it in Canada. Sadly, they won't mail it to the US either. Catnip just
does nothing for him but he thinks Honeysuckle is magic!</div>

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1ivXDLBPp0w/WVwD8uM9HYI/AAAAAAAAD3c/D4-GqZFSwQ81GNu87tjpIgXoJnL7YTs7ACEwYBhgL/s1600/1-DSCN4232.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" data-original-height="800" data-original-width="758" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1ivXDLBPp0w/WVwD8uM9HYI/AAAAAAAAD3c/D4-GqZFSwQ81GNu87tjpIgXoJnL7YTs7ACEwYBhgL/s400/1-DSCN4232.JPG" width="378" /></a></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
This spring Linda <a href="http://miraclechicken.blogspot.com/">http://miraclechicken.blogspot.com/</a> kindly allowed me some space on her table at the Tom
Bishop Show in Chicago. I wanted to try to sell some of the William Morris silk
chairs I made. When I got to Linda's table she asked..."Notice anything?" I was
shocked! The chairs sold within 45 minutes of the doors opening on preview
night. WHY, Oh WHY, didn't I bring more!<br />
<br />
No photo can convey how beautiful that silk fabric is. The way it takes
dyes is magic. So... I have decided to make a few more. Each pattern presents a
real design placement challenge. I try to and make a mirror image on each
side. On both sides of the wings, both arms and the sides. That can make you say some very bad words while you are working.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
This one has hand carved legs made by Linda Master. She is a wizard! How
she carves two perfectly alike is a mystery to me.</div>

<div>
<span style="color: yellow;">Again... Sky over a house that used to have huge trees all around and behind it. </span></div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
When I moved here 20 plus years ago it was like living in a forest of
enormous very old oak trees. Finding a place to plant something that needed sun
was difficult.<br />
</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
In 2003 another storm ripped through the city. The destruction was
devastating, thousands of trees fell. It was heartbreaking. They fell on houses
cutting them in two all around me. The whole city came to a standstill. I had
no power to my house for three weeks in July. That is when the
temperatures usually range from 90 to over 100 degrees Fahrenheit . There was no
getting out by car or on foot because hundreds of trees blocked the streets. I
was so happy to see the firemen. They knocked on every door to see if anyone
needed help. For weeks and weeks all I heard were chainsaws and chippers. I was
lucky my house was not badly hurt. My poor neighbors were not so lucky. Most of
them had to move out for as long as two years while the repairs were made. Blue
tarps covered most of the rooftops. <br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
So you might understand why I cringed when the chainsaws started here on
Sunday morning. I am still hearing them and the chippers that they feed huge
limbs into.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Today I got out and walked around my neighborhood. I was a little wary
because big limbs are still dangling from huge trees that managed to stand. I was
happy to see most of the houses were OK. </div>

I love the idea of a well stocked larder/pantry which can be seen through an open
doors in the kitchen. Beautiful baskets hanging from ceiling beams, braids of
onions, garlic, peppers and hanging herbs. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Today I wanted to see what all this will look like through a door. Though
the shelves will be very different. Much older deeper and going from floor to
ceiling.</div>
<div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
On the back wall of the kitchen in the center will be a fireplace surround
over the cast bronze stove I made. Then on both sides, closet doors.</div>
<div>

<div>
I was very disappointed that Tiny Ter Miniatures (Teresa Martinez) was not
going to be at the Tom Bishop Show this April in Chicago. Her work is just
beautiful. I wrote Teresa when I got home and ordered three more of her canned
goods. They are pictured here on the second shelf. From left to right... A jar
of cauliflower, carrots and green beans, a jar of pears in wine sauce and
sliced carrot sticks.</div>

<br />
I spent last weekend at the Tom Bishop Show in Chicago. It was great fun to
see and meet so many Blogger friends and artisans.<br />
<br />
<div>
</div>
<div>
Linda Master had a table at the show selling her beautiful work. She kindly
allowed me to sell a few things I had made at her table. It is the first time I
came home from a show with more money then I took with me. Thank you
Linda!!!<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
One of the highlights of the weekend was meeting Catherine Buron <a href="http://miniaturemaisondesouris.blogspot.com/">http://miniaturemaisondesouris.blogspot.com/</a> and her wonderful husband. I do not speak French and Catherine speaks very little
English, Her husband very kindly translated everything for us. I also met a few other
French ladies who are friends of Catherine's and very fine miniature artisans.
Dominique Autin and Christine Voirin. Christine makes the most exquisite
porcelain I have ever seen. Sadly, she had very little left after doing a
different show and I missed getting to buy more from her. I meant to get everything she had left.<br />
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
Meeting Lidi Stroud and her husband (Peter) was also a treat for me. I have
always adored Lidi's baskets. It is funny how you make a connection with people
long before you ever meet them in person. How that happens through a computer
acquaintance is a mystery but I absolutely know it does. I have always felt Lidi was a
friend. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
OK down to business...</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
WARNING...I didn't buy much at all! I was
looking for a few things I didn't find, like a French country armoire and a chest
of drawers. I did arrange a few commissions. One with Chris Malcomson that I am very excited about!</div>
<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I couldn't resist this Westinghouse circa 1906 fan. It has a cord with a plug on it but this one doesn't work. Though he did have some that do! Perhaps you can read Westinghouse in the center of the fan.</div>
<div>

<div>
<br /></div>
<div>
I was totally blown away by this "plique a jour" Butterfly hair comb. The colors of the 'glass' are very strong, there are three different colors in those wings. You can see right through it when you hold it up to the light. I also was amazed by this watch with a leather band. Both of them are so tiny and perfect. </div>

<div>

<div>
A fun whimsical teapot by Christine Voirin. The lid which is the table top and shelf does come off. I will add this at some point to the kitchen hutch with all the Stokesay Ware.</div>

Raheb, Pennyweight Press, Miniature Books<div dir="ltr" style="text-align: left;" trbidi="on">
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ttsXxrqR4OA/WNbTmxgPalI/AAAAAAAADyY/PB_d8W7rpRIpSEMm5P2PIsa5ZJCW2WUNwCLcB/s1600/1-DSCN4067.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="297" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-ttsXxrqR4OA/WNbTmxgPalI/AAAAAAAADyY/PB_d8W7rpRIpSEMm5P2PIsa5ZJCW2WUNwCLcB/s400/1-DSCN4067.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Some of the first miniatures I ever bought were books by Barbara Raheb.
They were made long before we had computers and printers. How they exactly they
were made isn't something I can tell you about. Perhaps you know and will tell
me more about that. I do remember someone telling me once they were typeset. I
can't fathom it.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j0glnDSLOpQ/WNbTm7V6veI/AAAAAAAADyQ/9AvWBK5d2HUU61rt1VwR2VfMax_yfTFGgCEw/s1600/2-DSCN4068.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="300" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-j0glnDSLOpQ/WNbTm7V6veI/AAAAAAAADyQ/9AvWBK5d2HUU61rt1VwR2VfMax_yfTFGgCEw/s400/2-DSCN4068.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>
<br />
<div>
</div>
<div>
At the time I started collecting I had very little fun money so these were
big purchases for me. The unabridged Romeo and Juliet was the first book I
bought and EB Browning was the second. I was fascinated by the beautiful
printing and covers she created. I have never opened Romeo and Juliet. Once they have been opened, they
never close tightly again.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
I knew Barbara had started losing her eye sight due to macular degeneration in 2002. I
spoke to her a coupLe years before that on the phone. Someone recently told me
we lost her. However, I cannot find anything about that on the internet. Please
let me know if you have any information.</div>
<div>
</div>
<br />
Her books are now selling for fantastic sums. I would still love to have a
few more. I regret not getting all the Jane Austen books and so many others!<br />

I had just one last antique compact I wanted to salvage the petit point top from. It was a big piece and again I wasn't willing to cut off several stitched rows just to make a smaller cushion.<br />
<br />
Actually, I have stitched a RL needle point cushion that is this big. So I thought why not have a big one in miniature. I can see someone leaning back against that big pillow reading a book in bed. :-)<br />

<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
Several years ago I made a dark blue wing chair with a William Morris print on it. The
fabric came from a 100% silk men's tie made by the Metropolitan Museum of
Art. The quality of the silk and the printing the Met does is fantastic! Plus, I
thought the scale was just right.<br />

<br /></div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<br /></div>
Other than the solid gold silk sofa I made, I never thought I would find
another complimentary print to go with the dark blue chair. The fabric shops in
my city are a total disaster!!!<br />
<div>
<div>
</div>
<br />
Recently, I found another silk tie on eBay that I thought would
work. No wonder, when it arrived I realized it was the same print in a different
color. I thought it might be OK if I placed the print a bit differently on the
chair. I did that except it seems for the seat back. (which I noticed after it
was too late!) </div>
<div>
</div>
<br />
<div>
I think they will work in the same room using a solid gold silk sofa I
made. I think the William Morris Brer Rabbit cushion I
stitched works great on it too.</div>

Happy Valentines Day Everyone!<br />
<br />
Just a quick post to show you I finished my assemblage necklace. Below is a list of the things I put on it.<br />
<br />
<span style="color: yellow;">The Top Row</span>....has a little gold lock I have had all my life. French enamel pansies. A 1920's brass hobnail boot, a vintage piece of petit point, my Barbie clock, a natural crystal in the shape of a cross from Kentucky, a brass owl.<span style="color: yellow;"> The Second Row</span>... has a sterling silver teapot (that opens), a French Souvenir locket with photos of Paris, a frog prince, a French hotel number brass key fob, a sterling silver doll purse (that opens), a brass hour glass, French brass dolls frame, a enamel butterfly attached to a brass whistle, a French porcelain house number, collection of Victorian wescot buttons, A French dance card with Joan of Arc & a tiny pencil, a school student honor metal.<span style="color: yellow;"> At The Bottom</span>... attached to the doll frame... is a 120 year old French guilloche enamel 1.5 inch ladies compact.<br />
<br />
It sure is turned out to be a conversation piece, the few times I have worn it people stop me to ask about it.</div>

I am still finding some wonderful antique petit point compacts. I like
those rather then purses because the designs are scaled for a small area. While
I don't mind salvaging the petit point from the compacts, I dislike having to
size them down. I know all to well how much time was spent stitching all those
rows. </div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
I had to really think about what to do with this piece. It was too big for a pillow/cushion. The colors looked
great with the chairs and the carpet. That is not something easy to find.</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
I could have made a very small stool, folding the piece over the sides so
it would be completely covered in petit point. That would have caused me to
lose the over all design. So I decided on a sort of pillow top ottoman. It can serve as a place to put your feet up, a make shift coffee table or extra
seating in a room. The top is filled with 1mm micro beads.</div>
<br />
<div>
I chose straight legs for contrast with the cabriole legs of the
chairs. I still have to make some cording for the raw edges</div>

<br />
I have no idea where in France this picture was taken. It sure felt familiar, owing to the fact it reminded me so much of one of Rik Pierce's dollhouses. I sure would love to make it. Though not for my collection, it would be too small. I just think it would be a lot of fun. I even like the color of the green trim. Surely there can't be two doors side by side... Can there? Don't you wonder what is around that bend. I want to see the rest of it!<br />

I bought these three pieces of Schildkraut petit point on eBay for next to
nothing!. There is a #1. compact (stitching on both sides), #2. mirror with folding
lipstick holder and #3. perfume bottle. I knew I was going to be re-purpose
them someday.</div>

The only piece I have taken apart is the one in the middle. I wanted to use
it for a small area rug/carpet. Thinking it would be great in a bathroom or in
front of a sink in the kitchen. I love the colors in all of these pieces. That
was improved by washing them all. I learned in embroidery classes to use
Original Dawn dishwashing liquid. It is mild and leaves no chemicals behind.
Even Kilmouski gets washed in it!</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
The glue went so close to the stitches on the back I wondered how I was
going to deal with it. I finally decided on a bit of iron on interfacing to
secure it. I made a black twisted cord for a finished edge. <br /><div>

<br />
<div>
I think I was bitten by the miniature bug when I was about 4 years old. I
remember standing in front of a gumball machine at the drug store with my hand
full of pennies. I was willing it to give me the prize I wanted. The prize that
kept me awake at night. It was a tiny folding pocket knife. There were always a
few of them in the machine. They were real metal and had different colored
pieces of plastic riveted on them. It never happened. All I got were
gumballs and prizes like a plastic magnifying glass or tiny figures. :-(</div>
<div>
</div>
<div>
<br />
Today, I found the pocket knife of my (age four) dreams and bought it. I have
a good reason at this late date. I want to make a charm necklace out of all
sorts of tiny things I have had since childhood. Lots of sterling silver charms,
old New York subway tokens, ancient 2,000 year old Egyptian beads, antique coins, the list goes
on and on. Plus there are a few things that have caught my attention while I was
looking around the internet to add to my stash. One requirement, if it
isn't sentimental, it has to be a functional working miniature!<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oZ53iGT-d9k/WAWgl3yLj5I/AAAAAAAADsQ/Hm3w7ygb2KohWoQVE0xano-O2CO6CuwjwCLcB/s1600/pocket%2Bknife.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-oZ53iGT-d9k/WAWgl3yLj5I/AAAAAAAADsQ/Hm3w7ygb2KohWoQVE0xano-O2CO6CuwjwCLcB/s320/pocket%2Bknife.jpg" width="320" /></a></div>
<br /></div>
<div>
</div>
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
</div>
In my search I found the world's smallest pistols! YES, real working ones
that either fire blanks or 2mm lead bullets! I spent hours looking around at all
the options for a pinfire pistol. I couldn't believe the price range there
is. They go from $6,300 American dollars for the ultimate (made in
Switzerland) to $30.00 I decided on a price range and found one I liked. I found
them irresistible. OK... Maybe you are anti gun... but seriously, you can do more
damage to yourself with your X-ACTO blade than one of these
little things.<br />
<br />
<div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">
<a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HAmcifg-08U/WAWZluBpQ1I/AAAAAAAADro/_PyYED_ZANwZoZ2e8SgTq3jEbE9UNiqVQCLcB/s1600/pinfire%2Bpistol.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="178" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-HAmcifg-08U/WAWZluBpQ1I/AAAAAAAADro/_PyYED_ZANwZoZ2e8SgTq3jEbE9UNiqVQCLcB/s320/pinfire%2Bpistol.jpg" width="320" /><span style="background-color: white;"></span></a></div>
<br />
The one I bought is just like the one above, except it has a ring at the very back of the grip. So I will be able to add it as a charm to a chain.<br />
<div>
</div>
<div>
Here is a video of a guy shooting one of the world's smallest pinfire
pistols.</div>
<div>
</div>

<div>

<div>
It occurred to me that other people were probably making this sort of
necklace so I started looking for them. Here are a few of the crazy ones I
found. </div>

The title of this necklace is.... "I am who they were" These photos are the makers ancestors.<br />

Edith Head typically wore her famous necklace of antique ivory theater
tickets. The late Elizabeth Taylor loved the necklace so much that Edith
bequeathed it to her at her death.<br />

<br />
<div>
I have no idea yet what mine will look like. It is a work in progress.
This has had me on a merry search through the house wondering.... What the heck I
did with THAT thing? Things, I haven't seen in years are being found.

<br />
I have finished another cushion for the bed. They look very happy
all together don't you think? ;-)<br />
<div>
</div>
<div>
I have also started a small runner carpet on 40 count silk gauze. Anyone
who stitches will understand that despite the fact there are hundreds of colors
sometimes you can't find just the right one. Some of the colors I bought were
dipped in a dirty water mix I made with transparent inks, in an attempt to tone
them down. Then the skeins were rinsed in clear water. Since this dye method it
worked so well when I ran out of the thread I was using for fringe on my Aunt
Olga carpet, I decided to try it again. I don't think I was aggressive enough
though. Which may mean I am going to spray a diluted ink on it when it is
finished. GULP! What is that expression... No guts no glory.</div>
