I have been working on a few toys this weekend. This is the only one I managed to finish. I am trying to decided if I want to bother making it into a pull toy.
For the coat...I thought I would try to stitch thick patches of French knots on Solvy (which dissolves in water). After the knots were stitched, I rinsed way the Solvy and applied the French knot patches to my lamb sculpt. OMG! Talk about trying your patience to a new level. Once the Solvy is gone there is nothing holding your stitches together. I can't tell you how many times I thought about pitching this lamb in the bin! The whole time I was working on it I kept telling myself... Throw this out it looks awful but being free for the first time in days, I just wanted to play.
Her face and part of her legs are flocked. I only had 2 mm silk ribbon in white. So I brewed up some raspberries and a batch of blue berries and dyed the ribbon in that.

OMG, you dork!!! LOL
ReplyDeleteShe's awesome! Please don't ever just "pitch" what you're making if you think it's bad - just ship it to me instead :D
Catherine, you are so good at experimenting and trying new things, you have much more patience than I when it comes to that kind of thing. And you have much MUCH better success than I as well.
I think your little lamb's wool looks PERFECT!!! It's adorable, I think the little sweetie would be great as a pull toy, but also just as she is.
Yo lo veo precioso!
ReplyDeleteEs un trabajo bien hecho!!
You always create things ,that makes me speechless.Thank God you didn't throw this little cute looking lamb away.It is absolutely lovely. And for a pulltoy, just create another one. This lamb take carefully and stand it beside,so that nothing will happen to it.I love it so much, all my compliments!Hugs,Jeannette
ReplyDeleteShe is just awesome! Sooo sweet! You make beautiful animals Catherine!:)
ReplyDeleteHow many people would think of boiling up edible berries to dye a ribbon for a toy?? You are the kind of perfectionist that is fun to have around :)
ReplyDeleteI can't image your frustration with those little knots but my goodness what an amazing result. Having lived the first 40+ years of my life in a country (New Zealand) that boasts 20 sheep to every human, and now living in Australia where it's about 10:1 I've had a nodding acquaintance with a few of this little lambs cousins so I feel qualified to judge the quality of the look of a fleece ;) (And you're quite right to dye the ribbon pink, if it was a boy lamb it would have been lambchop already, not strutting about looking ever so pleased with herself).
And I think she's crying out to be made into a pull toy!
She is wonderful!! You are so talented! I love her! Teresa
ReplyDeleteOne of my favorite toys!!! This one is really beautiful!!!
ReplyDeleteCongratulations for your works!!!
Hugs,
Meli

What a lovely little lamb, such a sweet face too and that ribbon is gorgeous colour and good enough to eat! Glad you persevered.
ReplyDeleteWhoa, she's got attitude, this lamb-girl!!
ReplyDeleteThe fleece is soooooo well made and so effective! In fact she looks damn fine to me!!
I love her.
Ditto everybody else! Seriously, you are a woman of many talents. What a clever way to make the fleece. Does your lamb have a name?
ReplyDeleteThis lamb is hot. And she knows it :)
ReplyDeleteBrilliant work, Catherine.
It's so beautiful and worth all the hard work you put on her :)
ReplyDeleteQue dulzura de ovejita!! está genial! Un beso.
ReplyDeleteThis is sooooo adorable and amazing!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, She is a wonderful piece of art and it must have taken you hours to make all of those french knots! I love the effect though as her coat is perfect!! For some reason I keep seeing her on wheels too. You are so talented and it is so great to see what you will attempt next!

You did well not to give up because the lamb is fantastic!
ReplyDeleteWill be a very valuable toy ...
I did not understand anything about the procedure you used but the result speaks for itself :-)
The malfunction of the translator necessarily sharpens our intuitive faculties :-)
Mini hugs, flora
It's a good thing you decided to stick with it - Cauliflower is just lovely but I would never, ever have thought of boiling up berries to get it finished! Sign of a true perfectionist, I think.
ReplyDeletemary's lamb! haha so cute!
ReplyDeleteOh, wow! I can't believe you considered throwing her in the bin. She is just gorgeous and well worth the effort, it seems to me. Great idea with the ribbon dying too. Lovely, Lovely!
ReplyDeleteEs un borreguito preciosos!!!
ReplyDeletey el nombre también me gusta mucho.

It's beautiful!!!!!!!!!!what else could I say,!?
ReplyDeleteO Catherine, I don't even understand half thethings you are trying to explain on how to do the things you do but whatever it is you are doing, you can write them down in a manual for experts :).
ReplyDeleteThis lamb is perfect and I want to be Mary if she gets to keep the lamb :).
WOW!!! Thank you all so much!
ReplyDeleteI have never had more comments on a post. I do appreciate you taking your time to leave me such lovely compliments.
Lovely little lamb :o) Bellissima!!
ReplyDeleteI just had to come back and take another look at this little cutie, such a funny name you've chosen :) I've met a few pet lambs called "Mint Sauce" in my time (I'm sure you will understand the irony), but I've never met a "Miss Cauliflower" before!
ReplyDeleteWhile I was stitching and staring at those French knots for hours, they started looking like cauliflower to me.
ReplyDeleteShe is beautiful, Catherine! I can't believe you thought of French knots and Solvy! Beautiful! Looks like you never had a moment's trouble with her! I want her! LOL!
ReplyDeleteJody
Love her name, haha! She is beautiful, love her face and her fleece. I definitely see a resemblance to one I bought (no I did not make it myself) some months ago.
ReplyDeleteI have been very busy, but I will email you soon.
Multi-talented much, Catherine?? This is exquisite, it really is!!
ReplyDeleteWow! this is amazing! So well done!
