Pascale's Irises... Think Purple

I wish my camera would see the right color. It drives me crazy. These are a beautiful shade of purple not blue!!!

I think I made a mess of this kit. Which of course means I have to order another one to do them all over again. Though in their defence I will say they look a lot better in person then in these photos.

I was happy enough with them until I added the beard to the irises. I think I would like to try a different material for that. The bright yellow (super fine) flock I used to make 1:44 scale flowers for the walnut houses might work better for me. I just lost control of the yellow sand that came with the kit. Though I am sure Pascale works with it beautifully! Everything she makes is perfect! You may have great success with the sand too.

This vase is a one of a kind. it has a frosted finish. At the top (in the back behind the flowers) the rim of the vase comes to a point. Would you say it was art nouveau? Frank Whittemore made it for me long ago. The first time I saw it I thought it needs irises in it.

A big thank you to Marie-Laure http://recreationminiature.blogspot.com/ for translating the directions from French into English!!!

  1. It needs Irisis indeed! It's a very fine combination, the vase and the flowers.
The yellow sand/beard looks very good on the picture, so the applying succeeded!? Or is your entire table now covered in yellow sand? ;P

I also love the little scene you made, the tabletop is gorgeous with that woodgrain!

  2. Hi there! I think you´ve done a great job! I also made this kit and also had some problems with the yellow sand as it seems to be a bit gigantic on the leaves. Maybe it seems a bit strange to you because we are usually used to see the irises companied by their characteristic green leaves?

  5. SaMiRa73 ... You are so right! I must cut some long leaves (from the kits paper) and add it to the arrangement. That will help a lot. lol

  6. They look great to me! I've made a few flower kits myself (not this maker's though) and they are incredibly fiddly to get perfect. These look like a challenge that you've successfully risen too, so be kind to yourself. ;o))

The vase could be Art Nouveau, but not sure either! I love the stemmed glass you have there (it looks very fine and detailed) and that wonderfully dollie on that table! Perfect setting!

  14. When you talk like that, you make me almost afraid and ashamed of myself ...
All your frustration about these beautiful iris makes me think that when you see my scribbles you are a stomach ache from laughing :-)
Really, from here all the flaws you mention do not exist.
I only see some beautiful irises in a beautiful and appropriate vase.

  16. Thanks Everyone! :-)

Today I took the flowers out of the vase and cut leaves for the arrangement and put a few more buds on the stalks. They look so much better now. A photo will always tell you what your eye cannot. Also a few other adjustments. I think they will be OK. I am sure I will use them in a future post.

  19. Love these irises. I too made some from Pascale's kit and only tried to use the sand once - it just didn't work for me. I left it out and the irises now look like Dutch irises and I am happy. Great work. Love the vase - looks Art Deco to me! Carol :)

  20. I have no experience working with the sand, but it looks good! With a few leaves added I'm sure the bouquet looks perfect.
The vase certainly has an Art Nouveau feel to it. Lily shapes were often used in Art Nouveau.

  21. PS: can't you change the setting on your camera? Changing the white balance often makes a big difference in colour.
