I have finished another cushion for the bed. They look very happy all together don't you think? ;-)
I have also started a small runner carpet on 40 count silk gauze. Anyone
who stitches will understand that despite the fact there are hundreds of colors
sometimes you can't find just the right one. Some of the colors I bought were
dipped in a dirty water mix I made with transparent inks, in an attempt to tone
them down. Then the skeins were rinsed in clear water. Since this dye method it
worked so well when I ran out of the thread I was using for fringe on my Aunt
Olga carpet, I decided to try it again. I don't think I was aggressive enough
though. Which may mean I am going to spray a diluted ink on it when it is
finished. GULP! What is that expression... No guts no glory.
They also look nice on a gold silk sofa I made.
I am just getting started with the carpet runner. Sadly, I don't like it much so far. Maybe when I start stitching the borders I will change my mind.
they look cute together :) if I were tiny I wouldn't mind sleeping there.
ReplyDeleteThank you! You would be more then welcome to sleep there! ;-)The shrinking might be a bit difficult though.
Delete¡Fantásticos!:-)
ReplyDeleteSo pretty. The gold sofa really makes the gold in both the pillows pop.
ReplyDeleteThe pink comes out so well on the bed, that rose in the middle of the little pillow is gorgeous!
Thank you! It is fun to see what different colors pop out in other settings.
DeleteYour cushions are 'seriously wonderful'!!!!! They are all so different but all work so well together.....FABULOUS!!!! X
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda, I am glad you like them.
DeleteHappy Birthday!
what a beautiful work
ReplyDeleteThank you Claude. They sure are work! ;-)
DeleteHi Catherine! I absolutely LOVE the cushions on the Gold silk sofa! Perhaps you could show us more of that piece? Is it a Georgian style? Or more of a Queen Anne? Or Perhaps a Louis Quinze? And as for the beginnings of your carpet, I think it looks just like the "middles" of a carpet we had when I was young.... old and worn and varied colors on the threads! You know what you are trying for, so keep trying! But I think it will look fantastic because it already does! Your work, as usual, is beautiful and awesomely meticulous!
ReplyDeleteHi,
DeleteThank you! I am glad you like the pillows.
The sofa has been photographed in my blog in another post. I will try and do that again sometime soon. I have another chair I want to make to go with it.
I am hoping as I stitch more on the carpet the addition of borders will give me the look I had hoped for. It is a small carpet that could be used for a hallway.
Oh this is fantastic! This is my favorite pillow. I want to shrink down and live there! What a fabulous scene you've created and incredible stitching :)
ReplyDeleteThanks Linda. I am glad you like this one. It was the easiest one to stitch too.
DeleteThose cushions are beautiful! Gorgeous workmanship.
ReplyDeleteThank you Sam for your kind comment.
DeleteWonderful cushions and what amount of work, but it was worth it :-)
ReplyDelete~Katja
Hi Katja,
DeleteThank you. You are so right, they are a lot of work. ;-)
A dirty water mix? Wow, you are far more confident than I would be experimenting like that. I'd be nervous that I would ruin hours of work. The colours you've chosen for all of the pillows compliment each other so well and look great in the whole scene =0)
ReplyDeleteThank you Pepper.
DeleteI don't think it has much to do with confidence. If you work on something a long time and you dislike it when it is finished than you might as well try to change it so you do. Other wise it will end up in a drawer somewhere.
I am glad you like the cushions.
Great work!! greetings, Marisa
ReplyDeleteThank you Marisa.
Go gutsy girl - and if it messes up we'll be here to cheer you on to start again
ReplyDeleteWell it wouldn't be the first time I started all over again. Thank you for your comment. I'll be looking for your support if I mess it up and have start over. ;-) Thank you.
DeleteHello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteWhat amazing and delicate needlework! The cushions are superb! Don't give up on the runner just yet... it is a beautiful pattern!
Big hug
Giac
Thank you Giac.
ReplyDeleteI have every intention of finishing it. I can't say I will like it though. haha
I love your cushions Catherine. When I stitched the chair seat for my Queen Anne writing chair I didn't like the colors at all but couldn't start over again because I needed it finished in time for the Castine catalogue deadline...everybody else liked it though...and now that is finished I love it too! Hopefully thst will happen to you too!
ReplyDeleteThank you Elga.
DeleteI LOVE your Queen Anne chair. I also think the petit point cover is perfect, colors and design!!!
They are absolutely gorgeous!
ReplyDeleteThe dirty water trick appeals a lot to me...I tried tea before but I am afraid that it won't last long, ink must be more durable. I'll have a try at it, thank you for sharing this tip :o) Rosanna
Rosanna,
ReplyDeleteThe transparent inks I use were recommended to me for the natural fibers I was/am using on the miniature animals I make. That includes all the natural fibers, wool, cotton, silk and so on. I bought the inks in several transparent colors. I use Liquitex (which is a brand name). This was what Kerri Pajutee told me to use when we talked in the CDHM forum several years ago.
Let me know how it works out for you if you decide to try it.
Thank you for your kind comment about the cushions. :-)
Grazie mille ! have a good day :o)
DeleteVery Very Pretty! Your cushions go beautifully together Catherine, and how Marvelous that you can switch them up with the sofa if you ever feel the urge,
ReplyDeletebut I DO So like them on the bed! :D
elizabeth
Hi Elizabeth,
ReplyDeleteThank you very much. It is nice to know that things can be used in more than once place. Once a house is finished you still need to be able to play with it. :-)
Your new cushion is gorgeous, I love the colours and it is perfect with the other one.
ReplyDeleteGeneviève
Thank you Geneviève. Nice to see you. ;-)
