Another finished petit point cushion for the bed.

I have finished another cushion for the bed. They look very happy all together don't you think? ;-)

I have also started a small runner carpet on 40 count silk gauze. Anyone who stitches will understand that despite the fact there are hundreds of colors sometimes you can't find just the right one. Some of the colors I bought were dipped in a dirty water mix I made with transparent inks, in an attempt to tone them down. Then the skeins were rinsed in clear water. Since this dye method it worked so well when I ran out of the thread I was using for fringe on my Aunt Olga carpet, I decided to try it again. I don't think I was aggressive enough though. Which may mean I am going to spray a diluted ink on it when it is finished.  GULP!  What is that expression... No guts no glory.

They also look nice on a gold silk sofa I made.

I am just getting started with the carpet runner. Sadly, I don't like it much so far. Maybe when I start stitching the borders I will change my mind.

  2. So pretty. The gold sofa really makes the gold in both the pillows pop.

The pink comes out so well on the bed, that rose in the middle of the little pillow is gorgeous!

  4. Hi Catherine! I absolutely LOVE the cushions on the Gold silk sofa! Perhaps you could show us more of that piece? Is it a Georgian style? Or more of a Queen Anne? Or Perhaps a Louis Quinze? And as for the beginnings of your carpet, I think it looks just like the "middles" of a carpet we had when I was young.... old and worn and varied colors on the threads! You know what you are trying for, so keep trying! But I think it will look fantastic because it already does! Your work, as usual, is beautiful and awesomely meticulous!

    1. Hi,

Thank you! I am glad you like the pillows.

The sofa has been photographed in my blog in another post. I will try and do that again sometime soon. I have another chair I want to make to go with it.

I am hoping as I stitch more on the carpet the addition of borders will give me the look I had hoped for. It is a small carpet that could be used for a hallway.

  8. A dirty water mix? Wow, you are far more confident than I would be experimenting like that. I'd be nervous that I would ruin hours of work. The colours you've chosen for all of the pillows compliment each other so well and look great in the whole scene =0)

    1. Thank you Pepper.

I don't think it has much to do with confidence. If you work on something a long time and you dislike it when it is finished than you might as well try to change it so you do. Other wise it will end up in a drawer somewhere.
I am glad you like the cushions.

  13. I love your cushions Catherine. When I stitched the chair seat for my Queen Anne writing chair I didn't like the colors at all but couldn't start over again because I needed it finished in time for the Castine catalogue deadline...everybody else liked it though...and now that is finished I love it too! Hopefully thst will happen to you too!

The dirty water trick appeals a lot to me...I tried tea before but I am afraid that it won't last long, ink must be more durable. I'll have a try at it, thank you for sharing this tip :o) Rosanna

  15. Rosanna,
The transparent inks I use were recommended to me for the natural fibers I was/am using on the miniature animals I make. That includes all the natural fibers, wool, cotton, silk and so on. I bought the inks in several transparent colors. I use Liquitex (which is a brand name). This was what Kerri Pajutee told me to use when we talked in the CDHM forum several years ago.
Let me know how it works out for you if you decide to try it.
Thank you for your kind comment about the cushions. :-)

  16. Very Very Pretty! Your cushions go beautifully together Catherine, and how Marvelous that you can switch them up with the sofa if you ever feel the urge,
but I DO So like them on the bed! :D

  17. Hi Elizabeth,
Thank you very much. It is nice to know that things can be used in more than once place. Once a house is finished you still need to be able to play with it. :-)
