Miniature Cat

a>

This is a miniature cat I have been working on. I am sure my real cat is glad it's finished because I kept feeling him all over. Which I thought was a better idea than shaving him to see what a cat looked like under all that hair.

I made the flock and fur out of Rainbow Gallery Alpaca. His eyes are 2 mm round yellow beads, they have a pupils painted on them but you can't see that in the photos.. Polymer clay is not something I have spent much time playing with, so I am hoping the next cats will be better.

An idea occurred to me about someone having left a drawer open in a bedroom and two or three cats sleeping in it. I want a bit of life in my dollhouse but not people.

PHEW! I fixed his eyes there was too much black around them.

  6. Que maravilla!!
Yo tengo que hacer un perrito y no tengo ni idea de como ponerle el pelo, por lo tanto seguramente lo dejare en fimo solo.

  10. Oh it's great Catherine! How clever to think of using that alpaca thread. I really did laugh at the thought of your cat all shaved in the name of 'realistic creativity' :) I like the idea of the cats in your house injecting not just a bit of life but potentially a bit of mischief ;)

  11. Miniannalee... I got the Rainbow Gallery Alpaca at a needlepoint shop. My other passion is surface hand embroidery.

Norma... It wasn't my idea! It was suggested to me by a friend. You have to cut the yarn into powder for flock and comb it for the fur she told me. That was all the instruction I got.

I loved the cats in Lea's blog. I bought her book even though I cannot read French "Maison Miniature". There were not as many cats in the book as on her blog. I think she must needle felt hers. They have so much character, I love the expressions on their faces and like the feeling they add to a room.

  13. He is wonderful! Have you seen Kerri Pajutee's wonderful animals on her website? She often says on CDHM how difficult cats are and you mastered one perfectly on the first attempt! I had to laugh too at the thought of you shaving your poor cat!

  14. Yes Jody. I actually posted a question in animal thread in CDHM and she answered me. OMG! Her work takes my breath away. She is just lovely and was right there to offer help when I needed to know about how to do the whiskers.

  15. Your sculpting is great, very lifelike and the finished cat has such a cute face. That's a great idea, adding some cheeky animals into a scene. I don't really go for people in dollshouses much either, I like it to look like they have all gone out somewhere and will be back at any moment, but you get to peek inside their home.

  16. Aaaah, another non-French speaker with Lea's book :) I adore it too and now and then type bits into Google for translation, but mostly I just look at the pictures. I like the cats on her blog too but to tell the truth I prefer yours.

  17. Norma,

I love Lea's miniatures and her book. I also bought the Magnificent Miniatures book. While I realize they are true master miniature makers... The book did not appeal to me at all.

Thank you! I am glad you like my cat.
