Take Two

Have you ever tried to make a wig for someone's head that is smaller than a pencil eraser? lol Thanks to Patty's tips, I managed it. http://patty-petit-orphelin.blogspot.com/ This time I gave the doll bangs to hide that rather unfortunate, odd hump in her forehead (you may call bangs fringe where you live).

I liked the idea of dressing her in silk ribbon because it doesn't need a hem. The silk is thinner than paper. The YLI silk ribbons I have are all white and off white. So I knew I would have to go back to the refrigerator to hunt for dyes. I didn't have any raspberries this week but I had blueberries! I tried to dye her skirt a bit darker then her blouse.

The last thing I did was her hair/. I wrapped her dressed body in aluminum foil so I wouldn't get hair and glue all over her dress. Now I see that holding her too tight didn't do her skirt much good. ARGH! I will try to fix it by wetting it again with hair spray tomorrow, maybe I can fix it.

There won't be a "Take Three"!!!

From now on if I post something that is going to be deleted I will say so at the very beginning of my post. That is a promise. I apologize to everyone. (blush)

I love all of your contributions to my blog. Thank you for all the time you spend here.

  1. By the look of this one Catherine, I think you were supposed to spill your tea on the previous one. I love the dress, the colour looks perfect and I do like her hair with a fringe.
    Once again....another wonderful piece!!!!

  2. Nicely done, Catherine! If you ever do this again, try Saran wrap to protect the clothing. As for those few wrinkles, I'd just try a shot of steam (from a distance) and let them "fall" out or touch lightly with a finger. The silk ribbon is pretty easy to unwrinkle. The new wig is perfect for her. Sometimes it just doesn't happen on the first go around. :-)

btw...I wrote you a rather long message in response to your last post but I couldn't seem to get the Blog to accept it and it was lost. I am glad to see that you got the information you required. Why did you delete the first one?

  6. Susan,

I really shouldn't delete posts I suppose. I am truly sorry.
I found two web sites for the doll makers you gave me. They make gorgeous dolls and toys. I loved them. I know http://diminutivedolls.co.uk/shop/ must be using a pleater to make those perfect skirts. I decided to just hand pleat mine rather than buy one for one doll project. I will try a bit of steam. Thank you for the tip.
I read everyone's comment. If they are not in English I always translate them in Babel Fish.

  7. Stop "Arrrrghin", Catherine! The doll is perfect! A bit of rumpling (not much that I can see) is normal for a little doll (handled by a little girl ;-) Great job and I like the bangs too. I agree about using ribbon where possible - it's mor expensive, but you have a luxurious fabric with a built-in hem. I'm trying to make curtains with ribbon right now.

  8. I much prefer how you have dressed her now! All the colours compliment each other and her hair is even better..she looks much softer with the fringe added. :o)

I've dressed and wigged a doll that small and stuffed it (it was a doll for a doll), it WAS a nightmare to stuff I can tell you! lol

Yes, you do delete posts! lol I often come back to see other comments, only to find the post has been deleted! lol

  9. You've made a lovely job of this and I too prefer the second version. How you got her hair like that at the back is a mystery!

  13. Wonderful job Catherine! I liked the first version too, but I guess a dress with no tea stains is better, lol. Great job on the little dress and the hair, geez the little curls in back-how the heck??

  14. The process of learning to make fine miniatures is one of life's "comedy of errors"

I decided to work on a project I had started 5 years ago and said "Ick that does not look so great". Good to know that we get better with practice.
