I didn't buy very much at the show in Chicago this year. I did order several things, it may be six months before I see them though.
I brought home a candlestick made by Scott Hughes. I asked Scott if he would custom make two lamps for two beautiful glass shades Frank Whittemore blew for me many years ago. I still have 12 or more of Frank's shades I want to do something with.
From Gerd Felka some more wine glasses and another decanter.
I fell in love with a Blue Jay sitting on a ('chipped, rusting, metal') bowl of peaches made by Mary McGrath. I thought it would be fun to have it sitting on an open window in the kitchen over the sink. You may not be able to see that the Blue Jay has pecked into one of the peaches. I tried very hard to photograph it with very little success I'm afraid. It is just one of those pieces you have to see in person.
I also got a gorgeous working clock for the kitchen made by Malcolm Hall. I love his work.
I was very pleased to find lots of supplies I needed. Several tools and paper thin leather.
Hello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteYou chose some really beautiful pieces! I can't wait to see what else you commissioned. I have to admit, the blubird really stole my heart. It is a wonderful piece.
Have a great weekend,
Giac

ReplyDeleteMe encanta ese precioso pajaro.

Lovely buys Catherine!!! The bird is really just lovely, you always make such beautiful arrangements of your mini's, real eye candy :-)
ReplyDeleteAnd please don't disappear off blogger, I will miss you, we can struggle through the new one together.

Hi Catherine! Thank you for sharing your new treasures. I love the way you always stage your pieces. That little bird is a most charming acquisition. The clock looks very striking against the brick wall!
ReplyDeleteYou did nicely for yourself despite being so sleepy. The bird is very charming.
ReplyDeleteYour purchases look delicious, especially the peaches, you were so lucky to get to Chicago. My friend Anna and I hope to be there next year. So I am busy saving at the moment......
ReplyDeleteVery nice buys Catherine! The candle stick is beautiful, very nice detailing on it. And the bird on the bowl is just gorgeous! Love the clock as well. I haven't got any clocks in my house yet. I have been looking at several for a while now, but can't decide on which one to get.
ReplyDeleteI would love to go to Chicago one day but so far the shows have been on or around my son's birthday (can't do that to a child!) and this year it was on y own birthday. Toyed with the odea of giving myself a nice birthday present - a trip to Chicago ;-) but then I would'nt have had any cash left for buying anything ;-( and that just would not do!
These are wonderful pieces from Chicago. The little bird is such an eye candy!!! Jeannette x
ReplyDeleteThanks Everyone! I had a great time this year.
ReplyDeletePatricia, I was so impressed with the beautiful petite point pieces you had at your table. They were lovely! This was the first year I got to meet a fellow blogger in person. I was delighted to meet both you and Carol (True2scale).
Sharon, Now I know I must plan to go to the show next year!
Josje, You would never be sorry if you went to the Bishop show. Even if you didn't buy much. This year there were two huge ballrooms and a smaller room for dolls. Lots of dealers only do that show. Speaking for myself... It was worth going just to see Bill Robertson's new machinist tool chests. He sold all six of them on Friday night. He had his own on display.
I met Jens Torp this year. He wasn't able to make it in 2010 because of the volcano. I asked him to tell me how to pronounce your name. :-) He is such a nice person!!! We talked a long time about metals.
As for clocks I hope you email me about that subject. There is something I would like to tell you about them.
Your purchases are wonderful. I'm curious to see what you ordered.
ReplyDeleteBye Faby
Fantasticas miniaturas,gracías por enseñarlas!!
ReplyDeleteBesos de las Malu´s.
oooo you did good! Wonderful purchases and your settings and photography are always SO perfect!
ReplyDeleteI must say, I'm a little bit jealous you got to attend the show!
what beautiful purchases and great photos! looking forward to see what you do with the thin leather?
ReplyDeleteWow! Great stuff! I'm still a little giddy from the trip, myself!
ReplyDeleteDear Catherine, I approach always holding my breath for small treasures you carry-overs from the fairs which you visit ...
ReplyDeleteEven one of these beautiful objects are worth a trip;-)
Who knows with what emotion you will spend the next six months...
Mini hugs,
Flora
Catherine, I really LOVE that bird!!! What an incredible piece! The windowsill idea sounds perfect. The candle holder is gorgeous. I look forward to seeing your ordered items as they come in!!
ReplyDeleteyour selection just shows what amazing talent is out there and doing an amazing job in creating absurd stunning miniatures. Yeah, if ever there is a dream.... then a trip to visit the Bishop Show is one of them. Enjoy these precious finds, i just know you'll treasure all of 'm.
ReplyDelete¡Que maravilla de compras has hecho! Pero ese pájaro azul me ha encantado sobre todo..!! Un beso
ReplyDeleteWonderful choice !
ReplyDeleteI am glad you could go to the Tom Bishop's show this year ;-)
Have a great week !
Catherine ... your eye is infallible when it comes to choosing the finest pieces, and that bird on the bowl is an envious acquisition! I have a blue jay, 'Big Boy', who comes to my kitchen window every morning bent on stealing the peanuts I've place in a row on the window ledge ... and, forbid they've been forgotten, I'm liable to find him on the kitchen counter boldly looking around for what else might be available, or hoping through the front door if it's open ... and when I'm watering the garden he calls his friends in for a sprinkle or two! The clock is wonderful, as is the glassware, but what you've done with the Chrsynbon parlor stove is beyond amazing.
ReplyDeleteThank you Monica. I was so amused to read about your Blue Jays.
ReplyDeleteI also feed them. They call to me to throw them a peanut when I am sitting outside. I may not speak the language but I know they call to all their friends to let them know the restaurant is open for business. Within seconds, there are 4 0r 5 more squawking at me for a treat.
Great purchases. I don't know which I'd pocket first if I visited and you turned your head for a moment - would it be the blue jay or the working clock - oh heck I'd just make sure I had two pockets and was wearing very fast shoes ;)
ReplyDeleteThe food looks good enough to eat!
ReplyDeleteYou have a very good eye for wonderful things. I have one of Mary's pieces, mine with a bowl of cherries. Also many of Linda Masters things. Lovely blog btw.
ReplyDeleteque preciosidad, el pajarito es de una belleza increible
ReplyDeleteI love your kitchen. Very realistic. And I like your new wine glasses very much.
