OOAK 1: 12 Scale Dollhouse Miniature Westie Dog

Mr. DeMille... I'm ready for my close up now.

Meet Andy! I have been working on him for several days. He was a lot more work then the Blue Merle Sheltie was for some odd reason. I came home yesterday and he was furred everywhere except his neck and head. Six and a half hours later he was finished and had his final cut.

He is looking up slightly. Andy is exactly one and a half inches tall.
I am not sure I can sell him and hope to get a fair price for him in an eBay auction. I am still thinking about it. if I list him I will let you know.  I have the option of sending him to Chicago to the Tom Bishop Show with a friend at his table.

It is such a funny feeling to make a animal and fall in love with it. I look in his eyes and I feel affection for him. How utterly ridiculous! I hope you get over that feeling after you sell enough of them.
I am sorry you can't see his feet. They are the best ones I have ever sculpted..

  1. O Catherine...I used to have a dog just like your Andy when I was a child. The cute and funny expression in his eyes, it's almost as if he is alive....such an amazing achievement!

  2. Wow, what can I say....toooooo cute!!! Yesterday a friend of my asked if I would sell the French House if there was a buyer...I told him that I really could not do that;) And if I would, what will be a fair price? Of course a whole house is different compairing to a dog but I understand your dillema;)

  3. He is so cute :-) you have done a brilliant job and if it was me, I wouldn't be able to part with him!

  4. If he was my creation, I wouldn't want to sell him either, he is so sweet. I guess with furniture it is easier, they don't have eyes that speak to you :-) and I do keep at least one of each for myself.

  5. I can see why you get attached to them, after so much hard work! He is too cute for words!

  8. This little guy is A D O R A B L E.... I am in love with him also. Too too precious. We have a shih tzu but we debated over the Westie first; the shih tzu's were being born first so we went with him. Never regretted it. He is such a loving dog. Your Westie looks so dang real I cant get over it.....

  9. Hi Catherine! What a little beauty he is. I could never, never sell him. That look on his face seems to be saying, "I don't want to leave you. Please don't send me away."

  10. I totally understand you falling in love with him. He is gorgeous, as is the stool he is standing on. I have a Westie/Shih-tzu cross we recently took in and I fell in love with him very quickly. Their eyes say it all and you have captured that. He is just gorgeous.

  15. Catherine, Andy is soooo sweet, I had best not show him to my Daughter or I might have to put an order in for one! I recall seeing a little Westie you made for Linda a while ago and thought at the time what a beautiful job you had done. Six hours for the head and neck is a lot of time but the end result is perfect. He has such expression!

  18. You've made a beautiful job of Andy, those eyes look right at you. Ha, if we could get paid even 1/10th of the value of our time we'd be wealthy miniaturists!

  19. I can understand your not wanting to part with him Catherine, I felt the same when my dog had pups many moons ago but common sense stepped in, luckily. However in your case he would be no trouble at all to keep but your others may get jealous. He is gorgeous.

  22. Es un encanto. No me extraña que no quieras deshacerte de él.

  23. Haha, yes I so know what you mean. It is so strange that you can get attached emotionally to a lump of clay with fibers on it. But the brain is a wondrous thing, it's workings have always fascinated me.
He is very very sweet though, such a cute face! Beautifully made! You've got a great artistic eye and skills Catherine!

  24. Thank you Everyone!!! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a comment.
Without your blogs and encouragement my interest would fade really fast. It was your blogs that were responsible for reviving my interest in miniatures after staying away for 15 years.

This crazy thing will sometimes allow me to use the REPLY and at other times it won't.

Linda (Une Petite Folie)... When I work at home it is hard for me to keep track of how many hours I work. For instance....Distractions like folding and putting away laundry happen when I am here working on something.

Elga... I can't imagine being able to part with one of your GORGEOUS pieces of furniture. I am guessing the only reason you can is because you make multiples. Hopefully you get to make one for yourself too.

  25. This takes my breath away. Not only is this little dog SO SO lifelike, he is also adorable. You have captured the most perfect expression. I do not know how you could bear to part with him - no matter how much you charge. This is something really special. Best wishes, Carol :)

  27. Oh, my goodness--how can you send him off into the world? He's just fabulous. I am not a miniaturist, but reading your blog makes me long to be one--except I cannot imagine reaching your level of achievement! You are a tremendous artist!

  31. Hello Catherine,
i do npot think it is rediculous at all. Look at him. His face and especially his eyes look like a real dog. I think it would have been rediculous not to fall in love with him. He is just fantastic. Bravo!
