I had forgotten how wonderful and detailed the old Goebel Olszewski pieces
are. I bought both of these on eBay last week. "The Poultry Seller" was in mint
condition still in the plastic bag. The Parrot was described as being
in excellent condition and still in its original box. I was very lucky in
both of these auctions. Buying each of them for less then the original price
was in the late 1980's and early 1990's.
They were sculpted out of jewelers casting wax and cast in bronze. Then
they were painted once the castings were cleaned up. The detail is just
wonderful. Far better then my photography skills can demonstrate.
If you are interested, have a look in eBay. there are quite a few in there now up for sale and auction. Be sure you are buying a dollhouse miniature. Some of the pieces he did are not.

ReplyDeleteThey have had three Parrots on eBay this week. You should watch for one there. You can get very lucky with a prices.

ReplyDeleteThese are stunning miniatures....and made more so by the wonderful settings that you set them into. You have a wonderful 'eye' for miniatures and you never seem to get persuaded to buy anything that does not fit with your 'theme'. My visit did not disappoint!!!

These Meissen pieces by Olszewski were the creme de la creme back then, and if anything they are even More Beautiful Now! Congratulations on having these enviable pieces to adorn your Fabulous collection of miniatures! They are simply Magnifique!

I remember them too from those days. I wasn't interested in them then. I think in many ways they are still as good as ever. Not many people can get that sort of detail in porcelain. Though someone is making something similar and painting the bronzes. The prices are staggering however.
