Collecting Terry Curran's Porcelain

I adore Terry Curran's porcelain pieces. His work is hard to find in the US. Although I have found several things on eBay. None of those dealers bother to tell you it is his work they have for sale. I have just looked at enough of it to recognize it when I see it. All the pieces I have, have been signed by him. I am waiting for several tiles I ordered he made. I am very excited about those. They are soooo beautiful. I ordered 6 of each blue and white design I liked. Along with Greek key border tiles and tiny corner tiles. I can't wait to see those in person.
The Ginger jar and the barrel jars are 1 1/8 inch tall. I am planning to have a pantry/closet in the kitchen with shelves visible through an open door. That is where these porcelain pieces and other food items will be. I am still not sure where I want to use the tiles. I also bought four of his terracotta chimney pots.

    1. Thank you Linda.

Some of the tile designs which I would call the same, have different figures. I ordered 6 animal tiles (all different animals). Also medieval fairy tiles (there aret 6 of those). The rest I couldn't begin to describe.

    1. Thank you Elizabeth.

Everything I have collected has been for an English cottage being lived in today. I have a story going on in my mind about the cottage and the people that live there. I know what their interests are. Those interests are reflected in the things they own.

  5. Hello Catherine,
Terry's work is just wonderful. The detail and writing is so precise. You have a beautiful little collection there. How I envy your pantry. The calligraphy on the honey jar is just terrific.

    1. I assume he uses the same technique Stokesay Ware does. I believe it is a transfer. However it is done... It is a great process for precise miniature work.

    1. I turned the coco powder on it's side for the photo. It should be sitting flat but then you couldn't see it. ;-)

  7. His work is fab. I've got a similar collection. It is worth noting that many dealers who post on eBay are doing this to help business. Generally artisans are opposed to the tertiary markets like eBay & only sell to dealers who sell direct at shows or on individual sites. So, they say 'English silversmith' or 'Canadian potter' in order to get around agreements with artisans. It is a hopeful way to protect brand integrity.

    1. How interesting, thank you for telling me that. I suppose it makes sense from the artists perspective. I have seen a lot of fine furniture go nameless too.

  8. That porcelain is so exquisite. Some of the best I have seen. I love that honey jar. They will look great visible from a pantry. They definitely need to be on show. I look forward to seeing pictures of the tiles when you receive them.
