I am afraid I had to cut the photo in half to try to get blogger to publish
the quality. I keep getting an error message. Grrrrr Blogger is being a real pain today!!!
You are going to have to click on this photo to see the amazing detail of this petite point miniature rug. It is well worth a closer look.
This is a insanely gorgeous petit point carpet was designed and stitched by Catherine Soubzmaigne on #40 count silk gauze. The rug is 8 1/4 inches by 11 inches. It has been stitched with beautiful variegated cotton threads.
I have looked for a very long time for a carpet I wanted to stitch. When I saw this one I knew it was the one! The detail is so amazing when I first saw the photo blown up (full screen on my computer) I thought...No way this is a miniature. I was in total awe. I immediately ordered the chart from Catherine. In less then 24 hours after the first time I saw it, it was in the mail to me. I am thrilled.
It is going to be a real labor of love.

wow, I love all the detail :)
ReplyDeleteFull screen it is astonishing!
DeleteHi Catherine,
ReplyDeleteThis looks just stunning. What a labour of love this will be indeed. Please keep us all posted on progress.
All the best
Vivian
Es preciosa.
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine! What a FABULOUS CARPET! The texture of the surface is just sooo fine! Even the way the fringe lays is delicate and authentic. It is no wonder you could not believe the scale. It is perfect to look at and I wish you the same kind of results. Happy Stitching! :D

As you already know I have seen first hand the amazing skills of Catherine S.......it is stunning work!!! Way too hard to believe the skill (and patience) that is required to make such an 'art work'!!!!
ReplyDeleteA labour of love it most certainly will be Catherine but with your dedication to detail you will fulfill this miniature dream. I don't envy the work, my one carpet completed on 40ct had only a few colours and was quite enough challenge for this less dedicated miniaturist not to start another ;-/
ReplyDeleteWow! What a Gorgeous design! It would take me ages and ages to stitch something like that! But oh what a result! I look forward to seeing some progress shots/tips/techniques for doing such an intricate pattern! You are very brave to attempt this!
ReplyDeletewow this is probably the most beautiful rug I've ever seen in miniature! It is going to be stunning and I know how good a stitcher you are it'll be perfect :) Very inspiring---
ReplyDeleteI have seen the real rug at Castine, it is amazing! Enjoy stitching it!
ReplyDeleteThat is a beautiful carpet! Great patterns but most wonderful is the soft variegation in the colours. Do the threads come with it?
ReplyDeleteIt is a big carpet and it will keep you busy for a while. 40 count is about the only count I can manage, any smaller and I can't see what I'm doing any more. It will be beautiful, have fun!
Catherine is sending me the chart and the gauze. She tells me I can buy the threads here for much less then she pays for them in France. I will be using those exact same threads. I also loved the variegation color. I have stitched # 40 count before so I do know it is going to be a big commitment. I do not think I would want to change the count. I love the effect of the threads.
DeleteHello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteIt is spectacular. I can't wait to see yours come together. the design is fantastic!
big hug,
Giac
Hello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteBeautiful carpet that you will execute perfectly!
I've given up on Google blog.....
Warm regards
Ray
RAY... Say it isn't so. You can't give up! We just got you back.
DeleteThat is both a beautiful object and an amazing piece of artwork!
ReplyDeleteCatherine, this is a spectacular rug. I will look forward to your progress updates. Does she have a website with other carpets???
ReplyDeleteNo Penny, I don't think she does. I am not aware of one. I just happen to know her friends through blogger. I saw her finished rug in the IGMA forum and asked a friend of hers if she would have her contact me. WE ARE ALL named Catherine. It gets very confusing which is why I am not using names hahaha
DeleteAh, the Aunt Olga, it is stunning, and a lengthy commitment of stitching time. I've only seen one completed since she first started selling the charts several years ago, and that only in the last month. Have fun!
ReplyDeleteYes Pat.. That is it. The Aunt Olga. I understand Catherine owns the original that belonged to her Aunt.
DeleteIt is a big commitment isn't it? I am quite sensible of the work involved to finish such a piece. You have to love the work or it is one of those projects the ends up in a drawer. ;-)
ReplyDeleteOh...I want it.
Could you please give me the details to get in touch with her?
Thank you very much, Rosanna
Rosanna,
DeleteCatherine is a member of the IGMA forum. You can send her a private message there. The forums link is in a recent post I made on this page.
Fabulous! I like the designs and colors.
ReplyDeleteOh my lord Catherine - you're going to make one of these??!! You must have the patience of a saint and the eyesight of 5 year old. It's incredibly beautiful, and I would imagine as wonderful to touch as to look at.
ReplyDeleteLet's not give credit until credit is due. I am going to try it because it is so gorgeous I can't pass it up.
DeleteI'm quite prepare to give you credit for even considering it, and knowing your tenacity I'm sure you'll bring it to fruition in the fullness of time :)
DeleteOh. My. God. That is insane! How long will it take? XOXO John
ReplyDeleteIt takes about an hour to stitch one square inch of # 18 count. I am going to triple that number for this # 40. It is a lot of counting and changing colors. The carpet is 8 1/4 X 11. It is crazy big. I hope I can manage it.
DeleteDoes Catherine Soubzmaigne sell her Heriz Carpet pattern/chart anywhere? I've been trying to find it after seeing it on Pinterest and your Blog, but, to no luck!! I would appreciate any information!! With regards, Katie
ReplyDeleteYes! Catherine does sell her chart for this carpet. If I still had her email address I would give it to you here. I can help you find her though. Go to the IGMA forum and leave her a message. It is easy and you do not have to be a member. http://www.fineminiaturesforum.com/index.php?/user/109-catherine/
DeleteYou will see over on the right side where is says "LEAVE ME A MESSAGE"
Speak to her there and leave her you email address. It is fine it is private. Good luck with your carpet.
