I don't know if this fledged baby Blue jay is injured or stupid. I rescued
it yesterday when one of the outdoor cats had his eye on him. I know he can fly because yesterday when I picked him up I put him in a five foot long planter tough (that is on my wall). When I came back outside to check on him he was sitting on the back of my chair.
I was worried they had gotten him over night but no. He is out in my garden
again. He took a piece of cat food from my hand. I wish his mother would tell
him to stay on the high branch I put him on. I am scared every time I go out
side what I might find.
He just sat on this branch taking pieces of cat food from me.
He really isn't afraid of me. I have picked him up 3 times and put him up in a tree.
You are such a great bird mommy to him, your love and compassion for animals is beyond wonderful. I am very worried too. I am a total bird person, not that I don't love all animals but birds are my passion. Thank you for helping him---
ReplyDeleteHow strange, Catherine. Still at least you've made a new friend.
ReplyDeleteSo cute
Hugs
You are the best for saving a life. Our mews are doing what they do. Hope this works out for all.
ReplyDeleteYou're an absolute angel for looking out for him. Is there anywhere high that you could put food to encourage him to stay off the ground?
ReplyDeleteI have three outdoor cats. They are always laying around in that courtyard. I want him to find a different place to live.
DeleteThose three cats are ones people moved away a left. Grrrrrr It makes me so mad.
Maybe this bird was raised by people not by his mum? That would explain why he is not affraid of you and sits still there. Couldn't you contact any animal help?
ReplyDeleteIf I catch him again I am going to take him to the Nature Center. I just found out we have one.
DeletePerhaps you should think on buying bird food, cause it seems to me that this bird is going to stay with you a long time. ;-)
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteHe is just wonderful. I love birds and blue jays are beautiful. Maybe it's the whole bird eating cat food that is throwing him off?
Big hug,
Giac
I have lots of Blue Jays in my garden. They all love to steal the cat food out of the bowls. :-)
DeleteAttention!
ReplyDeleteGracias. Yo también beause él es tan adorable.
DeleteOMG I hate this when this happens. I have a ton of neighborhood cats that come into my garden - mostly for poo-pooing - but one in particular each year knew I had a blackbird mom who laid her eggs and hatched her babies in the same branch and nest. This cat - Linda - would climb the massive tree and try to get to the eggs. When they hatched, she'd come after the babies. What stress! I was on the watch all the time and shooing her back down the tree. They weren't safe till they flew the nest. Now Linda is old and the tree limb has been pruned and the nest gone. But birds are wonderful creatures. I never minded helping out when I could.
ReplyDeleteYour title made me laugh because there are a number of dopey creatures around here too :) You are too sweet for helping this winged fellow.
ReplyDeleteGood news for the little bird Catherine, hope it all goes well. I was always 'saving' birds when I was a kid but it never ended well, they can die from shock. More recently saved a young kookaburra from the road though. Took it to a local country vet who nursed it back to health and I helped release it near where we found it. They are very territorial so must be returned to their own area. Hope your little one is fine.
ReplyDeleteHe's gorgeous and so lucky to have run/flown into you. Hope he managed to learn loads from you and made it through winter.
