A little nap after a big day out.
Poor Merlin had been so neglected for so long, his fur on his body had turned into a solid thick mat. His entire chest, tummy and behind his back legs was a mess. There was only one thing to do. Wait until it got warm enough and take him to the vet and get him shaved.
I can tell he feels better. He has been grooming himself ever since we got home this morning. I never saw him bother much before. I bet there was a lot of wild life living under that matted mess.
It was good to find out he is a neutered male. I was pretty sure he was a boy. He is about three years old and in good health. He got all his shots too.
He's a little worried about what all the other kids are going to say. I don't think Puffy and Groupie have seen him yet.

How cute and funny :o)
ReplyDeleteI was amazed he weighed 18 pounds Despite the ten pounds of hair they shaved off. haha
ReplyDeleteHe's in style. rocking nudes tones with fur accents!
ReplyDeleteHaha... I just saw the other cat (Puffy) look at him in astonishment! I have never seen a cat do a double take before.
ReplyDeleteI could read her mind... Damn Merlin, you're ugly...Who stole your coat?
Oh noes! :D My Jasper just had teeth pulled, so he got slipped a Mickey and woke up with shaved legs and fewer teeth!
ReplyDeletePoor Jasper. OUCH! I hope they didn't have to take too many of his teeth.
ReplyDeleteAwww..... poor baby.... but I bet he feels better... like a shorn lamb! He's lucky to have you to look after him!
ReplyDeleteThere is no way he could keep himself clean until he got rid of that mess.
ReplyDeleteIt is the best money I ever spent knowing he is comfortable now.
You are such a good mommy! What a sweet thing you did for him, I'm sure he is most grateful, and happy. Love the boots and mittens :) Smooch his fuzzy little head for me---
ReplyDeleteIt does look like he has on boots and mittens. haha He's a good boy. ;-
ReplyDeleteI am afraid Merlin doesn't have a great physique (in the buff). In other words we don't want him posing for us when we sculpt a miniature cat.
I was just saying the other day that I should save the money on cleaning the house and just shave the cat! He looks wonderfully sleek and cool. Unfortunately we are still dealing with snow, so not yet for our puddy tat.
ReplyDeleteKilmouski is a shedding nightmare! I threaten him weekly with bathing him in glue. Tonight I told him....Look outsdie at Merlin... That could be your fate if you get on my upholstered furniture.
ReplyDeleteHe has been trained not to get on my sofas and chairs. BUT!!!! Now and then when mom isn't looking he will do it. If I walk in the room... he jumps off the sofa like someone stuck him in the butt with a pitch fork! haha
Oh, he looks so cute with his furry mittens on each foot. When we shave one of our dogs if their coat gets a bit out of hand the other two dogs usually give them the third degree for a little bit. I bet they are all loving you being home.
ReplyDeleteHello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteHe looks deliciously cool and relaxed. With a beautiful face like that, anything goes!
Big hug
Giac
I am sure he will have a much happier summer now. it gets so very hot here. Over 100 F on many days.
DeleteAs his hair grows I may post a few more photos when I post about miniatures.
I know they were taken good care of while I was in the hospital. Still I could tell they were a bit freaked out. Especially Kilmouskii. He and I spend so much time together. He must have wondered where mom was.
DeleteI am glad they left Merlin mittens and boots. It is kind of cute in the sad mix.
He looks like a gorgeous, cuddly boy! Did you just adopt him? He certainly is being well taken care of.
ReplyDeleteHe was abandoned two times by neighbors. The second family fed him when his first family moved away and left him, THEN the second family moved away and left him.
ReplyDeleteHe picked me out over a year ago. I though he had a home. I think he still did during that time. He just kept hanging around my house. Then my next door neighbor told me he was eating out of my other cats food bowls because he lost his second family.
THAT made me mad! So he now has his own outdoor heated house and a permanent home here.
He cannot come in because I have a cat Kilmouski. The other two cats I have adopted also live outside. They too were abandoned by neighbors.
I can't understand how anyone could do that to any animal !!!
I cannot understand that either. They are very lucky they decided to adopt you and you have given them a home.
DeleteOOPS! It looks like I answered your first comment in the wrong place. Sorry.
DeleteThe odd thing is... I was never a cat person. I always had dogs. Until homeless cats showed up. I did buy Kilmouski years after my first cat adopted me. :-)
He is a beautiful cat Catherine but I am sorry that he has such a topsy turvy history. It is such a blessing that he has adopted you and that you are someone who actually cares about him.
ReplyDeleteeilizabeth
If he hears me come outside he runs to meet me. He is such a sweet baby. If I walk around the garden he follws me. I am not looking forward to planting flowers. He is going to be right in the middle of it. haha
ReplyDeleteThank you Elizabeth.
Hahaha !!! Catherine , il y a d'autres moyens pour obtenir un " sphinx " !!!! il va lancer une nouvelle mode . Mon chat adorerait avoir des moufles comme les siennes .
ReplyDeleteAt least he still has his socks and mittens on to maintain some dignity ;) I'm sure he must feel a million times better, if somewhat temporarily exposed.
ReplyDeleteI know he feels better. It is the fist time he has been able to wash himself. Plus I cannot imagine the fleas hiding under all those mats of fur.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine. Just letting you know that the grass you asked about is called Woodland Scenics field grass. I bought it at Dollhouses Trains and More. Thanks for your lovely comments!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much for coming in to tell me about the grass. It looked so perfect. I loved your post.
DeleteWhat a lucky kitty! Abandoning animals is illegal where I live, but sadly, that doesn't stop people >:(
ReplyDeleteI hear you on the hair...my two cats get lots of brushing, I vacuum a few times a week, and there is STILL cat hair stuck to everything I own!
I know exactly what you mean about cat hair! I could spend all day, every day vacuuming and I would still find it on stuff. It drives me crazy. haha
DeleteIf you live in Georgia... It was my cousin who got that law and many others passed concerning animals. I was so proud. The laws there were awful.
He looks so cute Catherine, perhaps a little embarrassed. Hope the other cats didn't make fun of him.
ReplyDeleteHe is a real sweetie. I think he is getting used to his new hair-do. :-)
DeletePuss in boots ;-) Not a bad hairstyle at all. Lions rock this style too. By the way, judging by the size of his belly, he's leading good life!
ReplyDeleteHe is huge! He weighs 18 pounds with his fur shaved off. haha I don't over feed him he just doesn't move...ever!
ReplyDeleteHe looks absolutely fabulous! You'll probably find you'll have less cat hair on your needlework now too :D Do make sure he puts some suntan lotion on! :D
ReplyDeleteMerlin lives outside.
ReplyDeleteI am sure my carpet has a a few Kilmouski hairs stitched into it. He has some fur in his coat that is so fine it is almost invisible.
so cute :D
ReplyDeletehttp://apkwars.blogspot.com
He is a sweet cat. :-)
DeleteIt makes me laugh a lot the idea that until the time of shearing, the hair was so tangled that identification of sex was a bit dubious ...
ReplyDeleteHowever, I am for clean cuts, rather than for the middle ground, so I can imagine that for the boy, from now on, it will be all downhill, in life.
It arrived in a house full of love and attention and good company, so the loss of fur is a reasonable price to pay;-)
Love to all and miao from Italy
