Click on photo please. I selected extra large and it doesn't fit here.
It seems almost everyone is taking a blog break. You know who you are. ;-)
I miss your posts!
I haven't been much better. Partly because I made so many nutshell cottages this summer and figured you had seen enough of those.
There is a French fabric dealer on eBay I have ordered from several times. I sent her a photo of my petit point carpet and asked her if she had something she thought would be good with one of the faded colors in the carpet. She sent me several swatches. I was thrilled. We have awful fabric shops here. I chose a beautiful antique rose in a silk blend.
Colors vary so much on computer screens it's sad because this antique rose is a beautiful compliment to the carpet. Linda Master carved the front legs of my chairs for me. Thank you Linda!!!
The pillows on the chairs are temporary. I am stitching pillows/cushions on #56 silk gauze for them. I think I am going to have to design some patterns. That should be fun.
Laser cut fabric by Jean Day. I cannot imagine having doilies in my RL home but I do love them in miniature. Things show up so much better on table tops.
The fabric is absolutely perfect for the chair. It looks like a nice place to curl up and read a book.
ReplyDeleteThank you! now all I need are walls. haha
ReplyDeleteUn gato fantástico, me gusta mucho.
Un abrazo
Maite
Gracias Maite.
DeleteCatherine.....this is perfection!!!! I adore your chairs, they work so well with that stunning rug! Actually I love every thing in that gorgeous little setting.....aren't Jean Day's doilies wonderful!
ReplyDeleteI too am missing so many of our blogging family.....what is it that is making us all so busy?
Linda x
Thank you Linda. What luck with that fabric. I looked in every fabric shop in town and found nothing! The color matches a faded spot in the carpet. I was thrilled.
ReplyDeleteYes! Jean Day's doilies are fantastic. I couldn't believe they could get such fine details in fabric. And no burn marks either.
Well, your wish is my command ;-) I just posted my first post in months. Nothing very interesting yet, but the season is only just starting...
ReplyDeleteThe rose fabric is perfect with your gorgeous carpet. There are so many wonderful shops out there who are willing to make an effort to help you. Where would we be without them? I know I would have serious problems if there wasn't some form of mail order. But fabrics are difficult. Not just because of the colours and patterns, I want to feel them too.
Eh ha! One of the very people I was thinking of. You must have heard me thinking about you. ;-)
ReplyDeleteYes, it is wonderful when people/shops make the effort to help you. I ordered several fabrics online before I thought to ask someone for a sample. This lovely lady sent me two pages of swatches I could also feel. What a big help she was!
Thank you Josje.
I am off to read your new post.
Hi Catherine! Welcome back dear lady and thank you for the Beautiful photos of your 2 new chairs! They looks PERFECT on your carpet, and the solid rose upholstery was well chosen and compliments the carpet without distracting from it. I also like the addition of the darker woods included in this setting and of course, Jean Day's laser cut fabric on your occasional table, which is such a treat! I too bought some of her doilies when at the West Coast Miniature Show last June and adore the super-fine work she has been able to achieve in fabric.
ReplyDeleteEverything here looks Beautiful Catherine, but I must ask about the house you were in the process of building. How is that coming along? .... Inquiring minds want to know! :D
elizabeth
Thank you Elizabeth.
ReplyDeleteAfter all those hours of stitching I really wanted to keep the focus on the carpet. English cottage interiors are such a jumble of textures and patterns. I suppose as time goes on the carpet will have to become less significant.
I love Jean Day's wonderful laser cuts. I saw you had a tea towel in one of your posted photos. Lovely!
Ahhhh yes walls. I desperately need them, don't I.
Wow that is a really pretty color, matches perfectly :) You did a great job on the chairs and I love your setting.
ReplyDeleteThank you Linda. I am glad you like the color. I sure love the legs you made for them. ;-)
ReplyDeleteLove your chairs Catherine, that is one of my favorite colors too! Looking forward to the stitched pillows, I think a bit of color on the chairs is needed.
ReplyDeleteThank you Elga.
ReplyDeleteI just adore petit point pillows. It isn't going to be easy to find patterns that don't fight with the rug though.
That is a perfect colour and fabric for the chair Catherine. So pretty and it compliments the rug so well. Linda's carving is perfection and really finishes the chair beautifully. Look forward to seeing what design you find for the cushions =0)
ReplyDeleteThank you Pepper.
DeleteI hope the cushions fit in as well.
un ensemble très cosy
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, what a beautiful scene, even the cat appears to be looking at the camera as you snapped the pic, the colours match up perfectly :)
ReplyDeleteThank you Tony.
ReplyDeleteUna escena encantadora. El color muy bonito.
ReplyDeleteMuchas gracias. Me alegro de que te guste.
ReplyDeleteПривет Catherine!
Catherine
Hello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteThe chairs are just beautiful. They look incredible with the other pieces...the doilies are lovely and the glassware is superb.
Big hug,
Giac
Thank you Giac. :-)
DeleteBeautiful chairs and details.
ReplyDeleteThank you Fabiola
DeleteA really beautiful scene!
ReplyDeleteGeneviève
Thank you Geneviève.
ReplyDeleteYou and Josje set such a standard that I cannot help thinking...what can I do with my moni making?
ReplyDeleteBut it's such a joy to look at your work and fabulous settings and smile at each lovely detail.
I love everything in your setting and I cannot wait to know which pattern you'll choose for the pillows. I am already certain that it will be nothing but perfection !
Rosanna,
ReplyDeleteThank you, You are too kind.
Your work is lovely!!! So bright and cheerful. Your stitches are always perfect.
I am stitching something on #56 count but it is a very simple design using only four colors. I haven't figured out yet how everyone keeps there different colors from tangling behind their gauze. I have bought some hair tape which leaves no residue on anything. I learned about that long ago in a stitching class.
Ah, they look so perfect!!! I wish I could curl up in one! And the pair look so wonderfully formal together. You have done a fantastic job with the upholstery! I really look forward to seeing the cushions.... and a glimpse or three of your nutshell houses would not be enough, I am sure!
ReplyDeleteThank you Betsy. Hopefully they will look right in a cottage.
ReplyDeleteI am not having an easy time of it with the cushions. I am stitching on much smaller gauze. Maybe it will be easier after the next eye surgery.
As usual, perfect and meticulous !
ReplyDeleteThank you Marie-Laure.
DeleteI saw your gorgeous armoire on Swan House miniatures. I loved it!!!!
ReplyDeleteMerci beaucoup
ReplyDeleteYou DO make lovely chairs, very professional looking and thanks for the nod towards the doillies. I'll be checking those out.
ReplyDeleteThank you Irene.
ReplyDeleteYou won't be disappointed in the doilies. They are just wonderful.
Well, here I am, a bit late to the party as usual ... The chairs are superb, how wonderful you could get the right fabric. The laser cut fabric is incredible. I'm with you on the lack of need to have doilies in real life but there's something incredibly homely in a pretty way about them in miniature. All in all a delightfully cosy scene.
ReplyDeleteThank you Norma.
DeleteIsn't it strange how certain things are so appealing in miniature that you would never think of owning in RL.
I'am so happy you found that colour fabric Catherine, it matches your beautiful carpet perfectly! The doilies I have ordered once for my future Oldtique Store are lasered paper, I would love to have some lasered fabric ones, didn't know they existed, thanks for the tip!
ReplyDeleteThank you!
DeleteI can't wait to see how you use the doilies you order. You always think of such brilliant ways to use materials in miniature.
As usual late, but I'm here too :-)
ReplyDeleteI love your chair, perfect in color and form. When will the embroidered pillow, will be an absolute masterpiece.
The cat seems to appreciate in turn ;-)
It's wonderful collaboration from one end of the world, to put together these pieces :-)
From Italy, a bit of healthy admiration!
Love,
Flora
What a lovely room! The colours are really beautiful!
ReplyDeleteHello, I've just found your site, I love your work, the fairy in a jar, the walnut shell gypsy caravan and the chair and rug above, beautiful.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine, The doily looks wonderful as does your entire setting, I left a message for you a while ago but I don't see it, perhaps a blip. Your entire scene is so elegant and looks so realistic. Such a sweet cat and love the crystal. I had a break in December and designed more lace pieces. Now, I just have to get them up. Thank you so much, I'm so happy you were pleased. Cheers, Jean
ReplyDeleteJean,
DeleteThank you for your visit here. I cannot imagine what could have happened to your other comment.
I am delighted to hear you have designed new pieces. I will have to stop by and have a look.
Thank you for your kind comment today.
