I have an online friend that is making a 1" scale Brambly Hedge mouse house. Today I decided to make her a few things for it out of paper. There are some great prints in the Scrapbook section of crafts shops. Some of them come in card stock weight. The two coats of acrylic paint to the side that wasn't printed and the additional ten coats of clear nail polish made them quite sturdy. I however am still swooning from the nail polish fumes.
I think just about everyone has the pattern for the pitcher. I found it through Mercedes blog. She has made so many cure ones. http://libertybiberty.blogspot.com/
The pitcher is really what started it all yesterday.
I found I had a scalloped paper punch that happened to be the right size for plates. The cherry paper was not card stock weight, so first I had to glue that to the back of the cherry paper with a glue stick.
After I punched out the paper, I centered a USA penny in the middle of the cut out and went around the edges with my thumb. So the edges went up, like a plate.
For the trays I drew a pattern first. It is just one piece of paper that has little V's cut in the corners on four sides. All that had to be done was to score the paper (in a square bottom, on the back side) with an X-Acto knife. That made it easy to push up the sides of the trays, so they could be glued together in the four corners.
If I had a scanner I would post the pattens I made for the trays for you.
When I read 'Brambly Hedge' it brought back a rush of memories of reading these books to my girls when they were little. I think I liked them more than they did!
Wow how cute! I don't have a craft store in my area so I have been trying to come up with ways to make my own plates and such. I am going to try it. :-)
Really nice plates. Does your friend Mary have blog to present her 'Brambly Hedge House'? I'm very interest in her house. Im building same too. I have a blog http://tiheikonvaenkolo.blogspot.com where my house is under construction. It would be nice to see her version of Brambly hedge!
Welcome to my blog! I am very happy to have you. No, Mary doesn't have a blog. She is one of my embroidery friends I met in a forum. I showed her a web site. http://www.pillisminis.de/maeuse_gbr.htm Mary had been making soft dolls of all the Brambly Hedge mice and I thought she might like to see the it. That did it!!! She had to make her own version.
Those are awesome Catherine! I hate making plates out of clay, maybe I would have better luck with a paper punch and papers like you've done here. Thanks for sharing. I would love to see Mary's Brambly Hedge Mice by the way!!! :D
Mary is very good at sewing and making doll clothes. I told her the best way to make the mice in scale would be to sculpt them out of polymer clay. She did it and she did them very well. The clothes she made for them amazed me! The embroidery forum we belong to is by invitation only. If it were a public site I would send you to her gallery page. I am sorry I cannot share her photos with you. :-(
Thanks for the instructions, I thought that you had pressed the trays as you really can't see the cut. It's good to see your work, it's a great reminder for me that things can be done NEATLY and WELL - not in my "I have to get this done now and fast" style :D
Welcome to my blog!
I am artist and a metalsmith. I have always loved miniatures and dollhouses. My interest in making miniatures is not restricted to the metal work I do. This year I plan to design and build a dollhouse.
I do not sell the miniatures I am making right now while I am trying to build my own collection.
