New Table LOL

I do love Colin Bird's work. He makes beautiful furniture. For instance... The "Double Bow High Back Elbow Chair" you see in several photos on my blog. I would have called it a Windsor Chair.

I have wanted one of his kitchen tables for a long time but I didn't want this particular piece made out of pear. Which is what he is using for them at the moment.

Recently he wrote to me and sent the picture above. It is a piece yew he has, it is just five inches long. He asked me if I liked it for my kitchen table. It didn't translate in my minds eye into a table nor could I truthfully say I could understand what it would look like when the wood had a finish on it. I do love all the tiny little knots in it. I just told him I trusted his judgement and to go ahead and make it out of this piece of yew. He is about to start working on it. It shouldn't be too long before I can show you the finished table. I am so curious. LOL

  4. Colin Bird's work is wonderful. Yew is a wonderful wood and I'm sure the table will be a work of art once it's made. I have no qualms about this at all especially with mini knots and all!

I don't own any of his work as I'm not currently doing that type of project, but as I can no longer obtain pieces by Jane Newman (for my Edwardian House kitchen),I will see if his kitchen pieces match my own ideal.

  7. That is what I call luxury : to choose even the material. And no doubt your table will be a stunning piece regarding the skill of Colin Bird.
I look forward seeing the result with the chandelier above ;-)

  10. His work is exquisite, regardless of the wood he uses. I've had my eye on one of his Victorian dressers for a while. You will, I am certain, be very pleased with your new table and it will be a treasured piece.

  11. Hi Catherine, no light in my house simply because it's winter and I live on a low floor.More over when there is some sun I'm at work. Nothing to worry about. Your table will be fabulous, I love that piece of wood. Best wishes, Rosanna
