The sculpting on the cat has been finished. I have learned that it isn't
necessary to go crazy making everything as smooth as glass if you are going to
cover up that area with longer fur. The face does need to be very smooth because
that has much shorter hair (flock). Flock is made by cutting the fiber you are
going to use into dust.
Siberian cats are very big. Many males weigh as much as 20 pounds. Kilmouski is a light weight at 17 pounds.
I haven't decided what color he/she is going to be yet. So I will need to paint it again once I have that worked out. Then the sculpt gets sprayed with a sealer before the fur is applied.
I am liking working with the clay better now that I know I don't have to cure the polymer clay every time I bake it. I can bake for a few minutes and then take it out and carve, sand or scrape the clay. This cat was baked several times before it was cured.
It will probably be next week before I get to finish it.
You totally fascinate me with everything you make....and this project is no exception. I look forward to seeing your cat dressed in its fur coat....lol!!

I allready love it naked:))))
ReplyDeleteExtraordinary! You are amazingly gifted!!
ReplyDeleteIt is just gorgeous, even as it is. You've really caught the intense look of a cat.
ReplyDeleteWOWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWWW This cat is incredible and it's not even furred yet :) :)
ReplyDeleteGREAT job, can't wait to see him/her finished!
Can't wait to see him/her furred, such a cute expression.
ReplyDeleteIt looks fine also without fur!
ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful and elegant cat! And yes, it really looks great without fur, have you ever tried to carve the fur in? She´s a real beauty!
ReplyDeleteYour cat is so cute and elegant.
ReplyDeleteGreetings, Faby
Hello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteThat is so impressive. the cat is looking beautiful. Great work on the eyes and the shape of the body is perfect. I cannot wait to see more.
Big hug,
Giac
Dear Catherine, I apologize for my inaction of the last days: internet problems and work problems, and family problems, and the list is still long!
ReplyDeleteThe chest is fabulous but, for some reason, the tea caddy excited me the most, perhaps because of its eventful history, or maybe because I love tea and tea stuff. I own a mid-nineteenth century sarcophagus tea caddy and I intend always to show it in one of my tea cup tuesday posts.
But now we come to the animals: the dog is wonderful and I hope that it has found (or find) a house to be loved. And the cat looks beautiful, even without fur :-) Would it be okay for an allergic ;-)
I think you are one of the most versatile miniaturiste I've ever known (shame not to have you as a neighbor).
Lovely hugs,
Flora
I know this is cheeky but could you show some shots as you are doing the furring. I'm intrigued by the process.
ReplyDeleteSuch a beautiful cat. I don't think I would be able to part with it =0)
OK Pepper :-) I am working on the tail right now. Once I get over to the body I will take a few photos. I will add them to this post. It will probably be over the weekend before I can do it. Tomorrow I am busy with other things.
DeleteThank you Catherine, you're a treasure =0)
DeleteIl a une très très jolie attitude . Je n ose imaginer le travail que cela va être de travailler la fourrure .
ReplyDeleteJe n ai aucune crainte , il va être magnifique .
Je vous embrasse .
Catherine
Great work, Catherine. I think the cat will be marvellous again. You are such a talented sculptress. Hugs, liduina
ReplyDeleteI already love it so naked in :)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful gray, thick fur?
Awwww Thanks Everyone! I really appreciate your very kind comments.
ReplyDeleteHi Catherine,
ReplyDeleteyou are so very talented, the cat has a lovely expression.....please stroke me...I'm irresistible....and it doesn't even have any fur yet!! I am really looking forward to seeing this adorable creature with it's silky coat.

Wonderful pose...Love the eyes, they look like glass, did you make those yourself or buy them?
ReplyDeleteInteresting to read about curing the clay, that would make it nicer to work with I suppose. I should try it myself (but knowing me it will be next year before I do so, if at all).
Now what DOES the underside look like I wonder?? ;-)))))
The eyes are 2mm agate beads. I painted the pupils on them after they were baked in the clay.
DeleteOne of the biggest reasons I hated working with polymer clay is I kept ruining something right next to something else I was working on. So being able to bake several times without having to wait 35 minutes for it to cure made a huge difference.
The cat is loooking beautiful , can't wait to see it finished .
ReplyDeleteThe face are amazing
She´s a real beauty!! Can´t wait to see more of it!
ReplyDeleteGreetings
Melanie
