OOAK 1 1:2 Scale Dollhouse Miniature Cat

While I still do not like working with polymer clay I do love what you can do with it.

I look at my first animals and I am happy to experiment on them now with the inks I plan to use to make stripes and spots on the new animals I make.
I am pleased with this cat and the feet. I am much more confident with clay then paint, so I decided to sculpt the paw pads. Those paws are about 2.5 mm wide so each pad did take a bit of time. I am not sure a heather sort of Alpaca fiber was the best color choice for this cat. The fur doesn't look as rough in person as it does in these photos. A solid color might look smoother in pictures.
The eBay auction for the Westie is only a few hours away. PHEW!!!! Ten days is a long wait from my side
Apologies to Pepper.... I am so sorry, I forgot to take pictures for you of the cat in progress. I get busy and forget everything else I am supposed to do. Like important appointments

  1. Dear Catherine, you did a wonderful job! I don't think that I have a full fledged phobia of cats because there are some cats that I can look at. For instance, Casey's cat and your very own Kilmouski which I adore! I feel faint when I see a cat with no fur on. Those cats really terrify me. My daughter's cats and my daughter-in-law, I'm okay with. If I were stuck in an elevator with a cat, I think I would manage but I would not be able to pick it up. So there, that's the extent of it. Once again, beautiful work!

    1. Thank you Lucille. Kilmouski is the sweetest cat I have ever known. I bet you would be able to pet him. And this 1: 12 scale one too. ;-)

  5. No problem on the photo's sweet. I know how it is. I actually hate stopping mid way through making something to take snaps.
Those are the cutest kitty paws ever. The fur looks great...almost as if he/she's been grooming just before the final photograph =0D

  6. Your kitty is ADORABLE! The paws are sheer genius. I'd love to see how you apply the 'fur.' Maybe next time? (I forget to snap photos, too).

    XOXO,

  10. Thankyou so much for the 'before' and 'after' photos. You've done an amazing job turning a white and hairless sculpt into a 'living breathing' miniature. Yep, it looks like it lives and breathes! And those little pink paw pads are divine.

  12. It looks so lifelike and is about to do something naughty. I love those little pink paw pads you have made and it looks just as realistic from the underside too, thanks to your clever research.

  24. He is wonderful Catherine! And the paws! Oh the paws are fantastic! Love those! He would have to sit on top of a conservatory or roof light just to show off those paws.

I was reading Catherine's comment and your answer...I suppose it is very difficult to find the right fibers for different animals. Cats do tend to have slightly more shiny furs. Would silk work? Or perhaps silk mixed with wool as its top coat? Of course I have never done any furring so I am just trying to imagine what the fibers would look like cut in small lenghts.

I was looking at cats at the Apeldoorn show this past weekend, but didn't like any of them. I am starting to think I will have to make my own cat and I'll tell you, it is NOT something I look forward to.

If I would have made this cat I would have been incredibly proud!

    1. Thank you Josje!

I used the macro setting to take these photos. Most people do not use that setting to take pictures of their animals. I tried it both ways. I wanted the eyes to show up in these pictures and they didn't in other settings.

Most people use Alpaca fiber for cats coats. It is as soft as it gets. Because this color choice was a color mix it was not as successful as I hoped it would be. I start on the tail, by the time I had that finished I knew it was the wrong choice but I wasn't willing to throw away the cat. I had to keep going. In person the fiber looks MUCH better on this cat. Here it looks ratty!!!!!!!!!!!
      ,sigh>
