I have noticed many people seem to have collections within their
collections. Some people love beautiful sterling silver, some fine china and so on. I used to
collect Barbara J. Raheb's miniature books (Penny Weight Press). I
also collected quite a bit of Frank Whittemore's glass. We made several
special order things together, like the glass pitchers with the sterling silver tops you have seen here in my blog.
But what I really have a weakness for is fine miniature light fixtures. They are like jewelry to me. This is a new (solid brass) lamp by Scott Hughes (with a hand blown melon shaped glass shade by Frank Whittemore). There is a black bottom on this student lamp Scott turned in teflon. I still have another fixture coming from him. I hope over time there will be many more..
I have several other colored glass shades that will fit this lamp if I need to change it.
Beautiful lamp, Catherine. I have one of Scott's pieces (and green shaded desk lamp) and covet more. I just don't get to the shows he is at and without a website, I haven't purchased more. Someday :-)
ReplyDeleteI am afraid he doesn't have a web site. :-(
ReplyDeleteThank you I am glad you like the student lamp.
I love your miniatures, always seem to be in "1:1 size". ♥
ReplyDeleteIt is 'mind blowing' Catherine.....your gorgeous little setting enhances it to perfection!!!! Some much nicer to own than jewelery, don't you think?
ReplyDeleteLinda x
.....that was supposed to read...' So much nicer'....dah!!!!!
ReplyDeleteOh yes, I agree!!!... Diamonds are not this girls best friend. ;-)
DeleteI don't know what is more gorgeous, your collection or how you present everything, your incredible photography skills!
ReplyDeleteIt is certainly a beautiful lamp Catherine and just perfect in your setting, and I agree with Linda, I am more interested in these little treasures than jewellery.
ReplyDeleteIt's really beautiful, I can see why you are smitten.
ReplyDeleteThis lamp is just gorgeous and lighting can really create an atmosphere in miniature displays.

Those lamps are exquisite! I'm not so particular about my miniature lighting (I think it's a side effect of living in houses that had track lights or can lights added at some point), but I definitely have a collection within a collection: tiny desserts and sweets!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful lamp.
ReplyDeleteGreetings Xandra
Hello Catherine,
ReplyDeleteIt is a beautiful piece. The detail is the fixture and the glass shade is wonderful.
Big hug,
Giac
Hi Catherine! I know what you mean about a weakness for light fixtures; I have one as well, and also for chairs, and lets not forget china and then there is...... Oh, never mind. Your lamp is has a beautiful shape and finish to the brass, and the glass shade is truly Wonderful both in color and form. It is a pleasure to see it so well displayed on such a Gorgeous chest of drawers! I have a weakness for chests of drawers and also for roses and beautiful porcelain..... uh oh,.... here I ago again! :)

I know what you mean about trying to decide what your favorite things are in miniature. I have several. Well.... all of it really. It is just that you see so many bad light fixtures that when you find a good one, it is MAGIC! Well... I feel that way about it. It must be because I know how hard they are to make AND WIRE.
ReplyDeleteThank you Elizabeth.
Ehhhh, your minis are ALWAYS the best.
ReplyDeleteCatherine, your taste is flawless and your collection is awesome.
Thank you Rosanna! How very kind of you to say that.
DeleteI am so sorry to hear about your hands. I know you have had a wonderful summer...but what a price to have paid with a bike accident. I hope you are all well soon.
Es preciosa Perfecta.Y sobre ese mueble....¿qué más se puede pedir?
ReplyDeleteLa! How I missed you so...and what a ga-ga-ga-GORGEOUS lamp. I think I might need a pair of those.
ReplyDeleteDear Catherine,
ReplyDeleteI can help you obtain a copy of the magazine Miniaturas as you ask on John's blog. :)
As my comments are moderated before being validated, you can also leave me a message on my blog with your address (e-mail), it will remain private.
Many thanks, see you soon (don't worry if I don't answer immediately, it is 3:30 AM in Paris, I'm going to take some rest, now, and will reply within a few hours. :D).
A good lamp these days is hard to find...(it made me think of that song by Feargal Sharkey). I agree with you it is difficult to find good light fixtures. For me that is true both in miniature and in real life.
ReplyDeleteI try to be creative with my dolls house lighting so that I don't get the mass produced look, but I don't see many light fixtures that really appeal to me. Some which I did like I could not afford. And that brings us to the point you were making, my silver collection gets priority over the light fixtures.
This is a gorgeous piece. It is a shame Scott Hughes doesn't have a website as many of us will never be able to see his work in real life .
Cette lampe est tout simplement superbe
