1: 12 scale Fine Light Fixtures

I have noticed many people seem to have collections within their collections. Some people love beautiful sterling silver, some fine china and so on. I used to collect Barbara J. Raheb's miniature books (Penny Weight Press). I also collected quite a bit of Frank Whittemore's glass. We made several special order things together, like the glass pitchers with the sterling silver tops you have seen here in my blog.

But what I really have a weakness for is fine miniature light fixtures. They are like jewelry to me. This is a new (solid brass) lamp by Scott Hughes (with a hand blown melon shaped glass shade by Frank Whittemore). There is a black bottom on this student lamp Scott turned in teflon. I still have another fixture coming from him. I hope over time there will be many more..

I have several other colored glass shades that will fit this lamp if I need to change it.

  1. Beautiful lamp, Catherine. I have one of Scott's pieces (and green shaded desk lamp) and covet more. I just don't get to the shows he is at and without a website, I haven't purchased more. Someday :-)

  16. Those lamps are exquisite! I'm not so particular about my miniature lighting (I think it's a side effect of living in houses that had track lights or can lights added at some point), but I definitely have a collection within a collection: tiny desserts and sweets!

  19. I know what you mean about trying to decide what your favorite things are in miniature. I have several. Well.... all of it really. It is just that you see so many bad light fixtures that when you find a good one, it is MAGIC! Well... I feel that way about it. It must be because I know how hard they are to make AND WIRE.
    Thank you Elizabeth.

I am so sorry to hear about your hands. I know you have had a wonderful summer...but what a price to have paid with a bike accident. I hope you are all well soon.

  24. A good lamp these days is hard to find...(it made me think of that song by Feargal Sharkey). I agree with you it is difficult to find good light fixtures. For me that is true both in miniature and in real life.
I try to be creative with my dolls house lighting so that I don't get the mass produced look, but I don't see many light fixtures that really appeal to me. Some which I did like I could not afford. And that brings us to the point you were making, my silver collection gets priority over the light fixtures.
This is a gorgeous piece. It is a shame Scott Hughes doesn't have a website as many of us will never be able to see his work in real life .
