Moving Beyond the Square

gbq

I have to apologize for not having something more exciting to show you. I have only been working on this carpet lately. While it might not look like a lot of progress, you can't imagine how many hours have been put into this since you last saw it.

I continue to make mistakes (which I am told is called frogging). Those take so much time to correct. If not for those I would be much further along. Sadly enough!

The thing about atitching this carpet is, it is the luck of the draw!!! When you go to buy those variegated threads (made by Gentle Arts). The dye lots vary so much it is unbelievable. The "red" I first got for the body of the rug was 5 times lighter that the dusty pink. It was sort of a washed out orange! If you order the threads rather then get them in your local needle work shop, you have no idea what will arrive.
I think after 7 orders from 7 different places, I might have the variegated red I need (thought it is still very light).

Anyway.... I am happy to be getting out of this square and on to the other designs in the rug.
Hope you are all having a great weekend. Thank you for visiting.

  1. It looks fantastic, really beautiful! It brings back so many horrible memories for me when I was stitching a rug, so yes, I know exactly how many hours this took you! :D It's worth it in the end, is your mantra! And it will be. I recently ordered a pair of boots, actual boots for my own feet and one was darker than the other. However, I find your thread problem more annoying, especially considering the hours put into it. The perils of online shopping!

  2. Oh Sarah! I cannot imagine a company sending you a pair of boots that didn't match. I am sure you sent them straight back. I hope it is sorted out now and you have a matching pair.

YES! I do have to keep telling myself that it will be worth it in the end. Thank you for reminding me. ;-)

    1. I hate the idea of this rug dragging on for years. I just want it finished so I can figure out furniture for it.

      Thank you!

  6. Because my embroidery skills are so limited, I'm actually amazed at how fast your rug is coming along. I've said it before but I love how the variegated threads give the appearance of age to the rug - that gentle fading of many years of feet walking over it. You're doing a fabulous job of it =0)

  7. I have a lot of these sort of RL carpets in my house. The one thing that I have noticed is as old as they are (and many have faded) the dark navy blues do not seem to change like the other colors.

Thank you Pepper. It seems like it is going very slowly. to me

  10. I am going to echo Jean-Claude's comment: I applaud your perseverance! You have made enormous progress, even if it doesn't feel that way to you. I have seen many progress photos on PP, and none show as much progress in such a short time as yours does. It looks wonderful!
It's a pity the variegated colours are giving you so much trouble, but I think I said it in my previous comment as well, it is worth it! Well done, keep calm and carry on! ;-)

  14. It's absolutely beautiful, I can't imagine the frustration of having to buy the thread over and over again but the colours now are just lovely. It will be a real work of art, as well as love and dedication when finished.

  15. Hello Catherine,
It must be so frustrating to have such a big difference between colors. At least the carpet is looking beautiful.
    Big hug,
