Cardboard, Paper, Scissors

I had to do some shopping today at Target. It is one of those stores that has everything! Going up and down the aisles suddenly I stopped dead in my tracks. There were these tiny shadowboxes with a hinged door and a magnet closure. They were less than an inch deep. I put two in my basket and continued shopping wondering what in the world I was going to do with them.

When I got home out came the cardboard, paper, scissors and glue. I covered everything in the inside of the box with one of my favorite papers. Then cut cardboard shelves to fit inside the box and covered those with the same paper.

It is so nice not to have all the Stokesay Ware packed away in little boxes. I can have this on my desk for inspiration, safe from dust, loss and curious paws. =^..^=

If you would like to watch a video of Stokesay Ware being made you can see it here. http://www.dollshousefestival.com/video/stokesay-ware.html

  5. what fun and to think I passed a Target store on my errand running today and did not go in.

But there is tomorrow when I will be near one once again. Now exactly what department was it in? I can just see myself wandering all those aisles looking for that very small item. I would get so involved in looking at stuff that I would forget what I went into the store to find.

  8. BTW... I have also seen these shadow boxes with the hinged door and the magnet at Pottery Barn. This is the page they are on.

  13. Your magnificent collection Stokesay is now worthily exposed!
You know, when it comes to cardboard, I am always excited :-)
I also go around the shops looking for ideas "brilliant" in miniture (really, I do wherever I am!)
To me, the cat will be more curious than ever, with this deployment of small objects enclosed behind glass :-)
    Mini lovely hugs, Flora

  15. So lovely, it is great to keep them in order and easy to lok at.
Thank you for the link, I should have to imagine it was Pierluigi who made the keys. He is very good with laser cuts and brass. I'll wait Miniaturitalia to buy them. Have a nice Sunday, Rosanna

  18. What a wonderful display! I am like you and want some of my most favorite items available to look at! I have one curio cabinet that is probably closer to 1:6 scale that I have some of my miniature porcelain dolly doll's in and love it! I will be going to Target soon for one of these!!! Thanks Catherine!!!

  21. Oh my!!! I had no idea that this post would send so many people scurrying off to Target for a shadow box. If by chance the ones they have are not the right size I have done a Google search and found lots of hinged door shadow boxes that can be ordered online. Not all of the boxes have doors. Some open from the back so if you order make sure you are getting one that opens from the front.

    Thanks Everyone!:-)

  23. It's a great piece and what a fab way to store your wonderful china! :o))) I've been to Target when I was in the USA, the shop went on forever and ever and it was soooo cheap too! ;o)

I particularity like that you've got your plates to stand on their sides without seeing tons of tacky wax! ;o)
