OOAK 1: 12 Scale Dollhouse Miniature Westie Dog

  

Mr. DeMille... I'm ready for my close up now.

Meet Andy! I have been working on him for several days. He was a lot more work then the Blue Merle Sheltie was for some odd reason. I came home yesterday and he was furred everywhere except his neck and head. Six and a half hours later he was finished and had his final cut.

He is looking up slightly. Andy is exactly one and a half inches tall.

I am not sure I can sell him and hope to get a fair price for him in an eBay auction. I am still thinking about it. if I list him I will let you know.  I have the option of sending him to Chicago to the Tom Bishop Show with a friend at his table.

It is such a funny feeling to make a animal and fall in love with it. I look in his eyes and I feel affection for him. How utterly ridiculous! I hope you get over that feeling after you sell enough of them.

 I am sorry you can't see his feet. They are the best ones I have ever sculpted..

Linda's Legs

I was so thrilled when Linda http://miraclechicken.blogspot.com/ sent me these gorgeous cabriole chair legs she made for my wing chairs. Somehow she cut them out of one piece of cherry wood. There are no joints in the legs. ???

So...I had to order some of Susan Bembridge's Fabric to do them justice. I got my favorite for a English cottage, Cream Fleurette. I can't begin to tell you how lovely her fabrics are. The cotton is so soft and easy to work with.

For this chair I had planned to make fabric covered piping. No matter how many times I tried (on some practice material) I just thought the finished result looked to big. I want the piping to be a subtle addition to the chairs.

OK back to the nasty stuff, polymer clay. I am working on my next eBay auction. It is wonderful to have a little extra mad money to spend on miniatures.

OOAK 1: 12 Scale Blue Merle Sheltie Dog

This is my third dog sculpt in 1: 12 scale. The others have all been Westie's. This one is furred with Alpaca fibers. They are incredibly soft and consequently so it the dog. There is no painting on it with dyes or inks everything is fiber. The eyes are made of 2mm onyx beads. His eyes sparkle but sadly not in these photos

I am trying to talk myself into doing more animals but there is a problem. I hate working with polymer clay. I would like to improved my sculpting.  I am starting to see the mistakes I make and there is something in me that makes me want to concur that. It is almost like saying to yourself... NO! You're not going to win!.

I rather like adding all the fur, for me that is the fun part. Even though it took me several days to finish it.

I have been busy playing with polymer clay making a shetland sheep dog (sheltie). I am having trouble finding the right colored golden, natural fibers. So This dog may have to be a blue merle. Which is fine with me because I had a full size blue merle collie when I was growing up who lived into my late twenties.

There is still a bit of refining to do on the sculpt but that won't take more than an hour or so.

I hope this title doesn't draw the wrong sort of viewers.

Old, Battered William Morris Trunk

I haven't put together many miniature kits. The ones I have done usually have directions that I toss in the bin as soon as I read them through. I can't remember ever following anything they said to do verbatim, if at all.

This time was no exception. I glued on all the "Lithograph paper" my way. The directions were ridiculously laborious. For some stupid reason I followed their recommendation to use Zap-A-Gap to glue the brass pieces on the trunk. OMG! That sort of glue has to have exposure to air to dry. Which is almost impossible under metal. I fought the slippery brass hardware to stay in place until I was ready to scream.

The whole time I was doing it I kept thinking.... Go get the BARGE rubber cement. About the time I was going to glue on the last three pieces I went and found the BARGE. It worked perfectly... NO mess, NO waiting, NO slipping around. Lesson learned.
